My father in law is a practitioner in the US. I was sick last time I was there and he recommended a few day of nothing but plain rice, dry toast, bananas and lots of water. It worked for me I was right as rain in a couple of days.

Throwing up for 2 days?!! then the reason you fancy tinned pineapples is becasue you are low in blood sugar and carbohydrate stores. Carb. stores are where your body stores ant carbs you have eaten so it has stores of energy and can survive in the case of famine- or even just inbetween meals. If you havent eaten your body may now have none left- or at the very least be running low. When it has none left it will crave sugar. This is the fastest way for it to get energy- sugar. and as sweet as possible. The best thing you can eat is something mild- none acidic, this is so you dont irritate the walls of your stomach which will have no food in it if you have thrown it all up. If you irratate your stomach you will simply just bring up all the food again. Plian bread-either white or brown is fine- though not with the seeds and grains in as this may be rejected by your stomach, or give it too much work to do digesting. Wter or a LITTLE semi skimmed or skimmed milk (milk can be quite rich) is ok too. Try to steer clear of jam, butter, or chocolate- or fruit, tinned or otherwise, its really acidic and may also feed the bug which is in your system. If you continue to throw everyhting up, you really should see a doctor, you could be dehydrated for a start, and become very ill very quickly unless you can drink.

Z-so sorry to hear you are under the weather. It has been going around here like crazy. I thought I could get away and not catch it but I did 2-weeks ago. I couldn't take it anymore, because I have ulcertaive colitis also, called the doc and got Promethazine and it worked and I could sleep and felt better in just a few days. It helped me get through the worse part and relax too. I took it easy on the food, stayed with liquids for the first few days and gradually moved onto a little mash potatoes.Hope you are feeling better real soon! It has taken it's tole around here and it seems to be a little different on each person.Feel Better Soon!

Keep up the fluid to replace all that you loose. You can get rehydration sachets from any Pharmacy in the UK , but you can make up your own with clean tap water, a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt to a litre of water ( for exact proportions check out the web for rehydration solution).
Boiled rice is sufficiently bland to be ok but avoid fats ( butter or oil). If it doesnt improve soon there may be a possibility that you picked up something more serious , if so see your Doctor asap.
Be very careful with personal hygiene. Make sure you wash your hands every time and do not share towels or crockery with others.

At 6 days it's dragging on a bit. If you still have diarrhoea I would send in a sample via your GP. The general advise is clear, ideally isotonic fluids and nothing else. However I usually allow toast and dry biscuits. Avoid dairy products, the diarrhoea sweeps the enzymes off the bowel Wall. So if you drink milk it cannot be digested and comes straight out the other end.

Dont eat anything for 24 hours. This should kill the bug. Drink plenty of water. When you start to eat again, eat small bland things and no dairy even a little bit of butter can start the whole thing off again. Eat little and often to see if you have a reaction. Banana's are a good thing to start with. Hope you feel better soon :0)

What about just dry toast? Maybe with a little scrambled egg? I've also been told that hot lemonade will settle the stomach. Just put it in the microwave for around 30-40 seconds.

Chicken soup is always good to help flush out the toxins in your system. That, along with some good tea with honey to coat your throat and stomach is helpful. I had a similar bug not long ago and those really helped me. Also, try gingerale in small amounts and some saltine crackers. Hope you feel better soon!

You need to stay off solid food altogether for about 24hrs. Drink ONLY water that has been boiled for 3mins and cooled.
Then you need to slowly build back up again. So begin with light soups and maybe a bit of icecream, but don't go mad.
Also try the live yoghurt drinks like Danone or Actimel.

My grandad used to swear by boiled white rice and lemon juice!!! Quite vile but seemed to work.....Best thing to do is avoid solid food altogether for at least 24hrs and stuck to boiled water, flat lemonade and peppermint tea. You could also try dry savoury biscuits if you.....If it has been going on fir that long though you really ought to seek medical advice because it sounds like food poisoning to me.....Get well soon!
