Okay I've been flat ironing my hair since the summer of 2006 and it is all broken and has a lot of flyaways. I use Garnier Fructis smoothing milk after flat ironing and it makes my hair soft, but my hair is dry, like not moisturized. It smooths down most of my flyaways and makes my hair super shiny, but I want to get it permanently straightened. What is HEALTHIER for my hair.

getting it permaneantly straightened will damage your hair it will take time and alot of good hair products to fix, but its completely up to you, im not saying you shouldnt do it, you`ll just need to take extra good care of your hair. My suggestion though would be to take off from straightening it for like maybe a month or so if you can deal with that long, while your waiting use pantene restoratives shampoo and conditioner or Loreal Artec Smoothing shampoo and conditioner then when your hair is healthy again start straightening it once or twice a week and use a heat protector like alberto vo5 miracle mist or chi iron guard. oh yea and remeber to use a ceramic straightner they will cause ALOT less damage. Good Luck!

If your hair is already dry and damaged, do not get it permanently straightened. Try using Paul Mitchell strengthening shampoo and conditioner. Use Paul Mitchell super skinny serum before blow drying and using the flat iron. You can even add some afterwards for extra shine. I flat iron my hair as well and had the same problem until my stylist turned me on the the strengthening shampoo, etc. Do you wash and flat iron your hair everyday? If you do now, stop doing it. You don't need to wash it every day if it is already dry. Wash it every two-three days.

At this point, you might want to talk to your stylist. You might need to get some length taken off or maybe she can recommend a professional product which would protect your hair better. You might also try some moisturizing treatments like hot oil or, I know it sounds gross, but seriously, just coat your hair with mayonnaise, work it all the way through your hair and leave it in for about twenty minutes. It works wonders and its cheap. Do that once or twice a week and you will notice the difference. It;s something with the oils and lard in the mayonnaise, it really helps hair,.

If I were you, I would get a trim because if your hair is that bad damaged then it sounds like its been a while. I straighten my hair from time to time and it does seem to become pretty bad until I trim it. If you want to PERMANENTLY straighten your hair talk to a stylist. All they will probably do is use permanent solution anyhow which I do want to add is not good for your hair!

What would be best is a really super short haircut close to the scalp that requires daily low maintenance. all that crap you are doing to your hair is severely damaging it. free yourself from being a slave to your hair!

well it's good that you use that smoothing milk.. but you should try their sleek & shine leave in conditioner before you straighten.. and i'd get a trim too.
