Wierd, I've never heard of that.
"The practice of removing holy water from the fonts during the entire season of Lent is an innovation not present in the Roman Rite. Some see Lent as a “desert journey” in which we thirst for the baptismal water of Easter. Thus, some well-meaning clergy and lay faithful encouraged by experimental liturgical publications have removed the holy water, covered the fonts in purple, or placed sand, rocks, and cacti in the fonts during the Lenten season."

Some parishes do this as a reminderof Jesus' desert experience....BUT IT IS WRONG!
Holy water is sacramental, and we are not to 'fast' from sacramentals during Lent! We are supposed to take fuller advantage of them during this time of growing closer to the Lord- because that is what sacramentals are supposed to do!

Could it be because Jesus was in the desert for 40 days during Lent.
