You will need to burn 7700 calories in excess of what you consume to lose 1 kilogram of fat. Although it takes about 9 calories to add a gram of fat, burning 1 gram of fat will only give you about 7.7 calories. The difference is due to the second law of thermodynamics which means that you always get less usable energy out of a system than you put in. It is also why perpetual motion machines don't exist.

It's 3,500 per lb, so a kg is 2.2 lb, that's 7,700 calories.

For most people, if you reduce your intake by 500 calories per day, you will lose about 1 lb per week (1 kg every 2 weeks). Jogging for about 30 minutes burns about 300 calories, so you can see that dieting is probably a faster way to go. Excercise is best for keeping the weight off.

14 grams of canola oil has 120 calories (100% from fat). If we imagine that fat is fat, which it is not, then at worse case it would be (1000/14 ) x 120 = 8571 calories. Worse case because low molecular weight fats (oil) have more energy than blubber. LOL
