the lighter gremlins?
But seriously. I had this one summer, I just got a new car, and I was travelling all over visiting friends. I went through 100's of lighters. I presumed my friends were taking 'em all. Finally I'm with my very best friend. We are in the car with the doors locked, windows up, and my last lighter disappears. I accuse her and she pulls out her pockets (offended). I tell her it has to be her, that maybe she subconciously put it in her purse,. That it was my last lighter. We kinda get in a fight. Anyway, a week later I lose my cell phone, and have to get a gas station clerk to call me (I spend a lot of time on the road). I hear it ringing from inside my car. As it turns out there was a small hole by the shifts paneling (where I put my lighters and cell-phone. Inside the paneling I found over forty some lighters!!! Not to mention more under seats.

The same sob that always takes mine.
Last party I brought 3 lighters purposefully. They all disappeared and I didn't even have much to drink.
A party is like a lighter Bermuda triangle, some real Twilight Zone stuff.
Really it's just that everyone's intoxicated and a lighter is really small. Plus everyone's natural reaction when they get done using a lighter is to put it in their pocket. Imagine how many pens would disappear from the bank if everyone was drunk.
But then maybe there is no party in your predicament, in which case the mystery only deepens....

My roommates and I took a lighter and duct taped it to a piece of string tied to the coffee table leg in our house. This way, the only way someone could take it would be to actively steal it.

I have that same problem! I have lost all my lighters and am having to use matches. I think I have Lighter "Borrowers" Ha ha. Why is it socks and lighters always go awol?

The couch is. Its so awful next time tell it off and throw it out of the house and maybe it wont do it anymore.
