It does have eggs and dairy. I bought it last night, for an event I thought was today but is actually tomorrow.

It will be fine for your event tomorrow. Just make sure it wrapped really well. And the refrigerator is the correct place to keep your cake. Recipes don't often tell you how to store cakes and most people think that means at room temperature is fine, but cakes, especially those with buttercream or whipped cream frostings need to be kept under refrigeration. Take it out about 30 minutes before you're going to serve it.

The length of time depends on a couple of factors:

Were there any eggs in the cake?
Was there any dairy (milk) in the cake or frosting?
Was it left out on a table for several hours before putting into the refridgerator?
How well is the cake being sealed?

In most cases, people tend to finish a cake before it goes "bad". If you've taken the cake to work for a party and only half was eaten, but it was left out all day, then you should consider the following:

If you scrambled eggs and left them out all day, would you still eat them?

Supposing you baked the cake, it does contain eggs and dairy, it is covered, and it wasn't out on the counter very long, I'd say you could safely eat it for about a week. It would probably dry out around the edges and wouldn't be very appetizing after 3 or 4 days, so you'll want to watch that as well.

Otherwise you could freezer half of it and put a smaller portion in your fridge!

It will get stale faster in the refrigerator. Too much moisture. I leave mine out in an airtight container. The only exception is when the frosting has cream cheese in it.

the best way to keep it is, first put it in a plastic box like tupperware/ rubbermaid. then freeze it. when you like to eat it. just thaw the cake with the lid of the box on, so that moisture will not evaporate. cakes stored in freezer last longer than in the fridge.
