I work with a breeder, cleaning cages, what have you. There was an outbreak of Parvo last week.. and everyday before I came home, I bleached my hands, the bottoms of my shoes, anything I could. But last night my 6 month old Lab started throwing up. She won't even wag her tail, she just sits there. Could she have Parvo? We haven't gotten a chance to get her shots yet, they're so expensive in Vegas. We also have a 4 year old coon hound.. (only 1st set of shots..) will it infect her too? what do i do?

Parvo is a nasty disease and hard to get rid of and VERY contagious. Immediately isolate the lab, soak everything in bleach where she's been since she got sick, get rid of the food bowls, and hope to god your other dog doesn't get it (although puppies are much more susceptible to than adult dogs).

Treatment is expensive ( a lot more expensive than shots! ). Basically the only treatment you can do from home is to get her to drink Pedialyte to replenish the nutrients she's losing and to keep her hydrated.
Good luck.

sounds like the first symptoms of parvo to me,get her and the hound to a vet pronto, the longer you wait the less of a chance you have of saving her,it may already be too late and the Vet can start both of them on antibiotics right away, the hound will more than likely be ok she is much older and has had a booster but your poor lab will probably need supportive IV fluids as well because from here on out she wont be able to keep anything down and will soon get excessive bloody smelly diarreah and horrible vomiting,i know you said the shots were too expensive to get and you took all precautions for your dogs not to become infected that was a good thing, but now you have learned your lesson the hard way and even more expensive way no matter how much the shots are they MUST be done now you are going to have a huge vet bill when a less expensive shot would have taken care of it,and i am SORRY that this is happening to you and your poor little girl,it is a horrible way to die and a horrible thing to watch your dog wasting away

Why do people ask medical advice here and not take their dog to the vet. Really if you can't afford a vet you shouldn't have gotten a dog. You should have known better because you work for a breeder and you are among other dogs. There is a good chance your puppy has Parvo. You won't know until you do get your dog to the vet. They always say prevention is better than medicine.

Let me add this too. People have to stop copy and pasting their answer.. The rule of thumb is some people can be book smart and experience stupid.

They need to go to the vet immediately and you can get a loan to pay off the bill. There are low cost vacinations that you could get for these babies. The shots probably won't do any good if they already have the virus. The breeder can probably refer you to someone or may even have the shots there. Sometime feed stores carry that type of thing. The 4 year old probably has a better immune system but the 6 month old hasn't developed that yet.

You had better get both of the dogs to the veterinarian ASAP. There may be no cure, but you could certainly find out if a vet could help them.
Parvo virus is one of the most contagious viruses for canines to get. The coon hound may have enough antibodies from the first set of shots, but it is doubtful. You may lose both of them.
For future reference: have any dog you may want to bring home inoculated weeks before you bring it home. Allow the dog to go through the entire series of first shots before bringing it home. Parvo can live in an area for a long time and infect any dog that comes into the area where there were infected animals.
Next time you get a dog, please spend the money on all of its inoculations. It will save much heartache in the future.

oh my parvo is caught very easy....u should have had ur dogs up to date on shots when working with other dogs. i wouldn't even go in my house until i changed in the garage and bleach everything and every thing went straight to the washer in HOT water and bleach no matter the color... even though my dog were up to date. u think shots cost alot???? treatment for parvo is alot more.... and then who knows if the dogs gonna make it
the coon hound is safer then the pup however he only had one shot.

good luck and i'd be heading to the vet.. hope ur dogs are ok and ya get all their shots...

It's very unlikely for an adult dog to get parvo, still, be careful.

Now, you need to get your Lab to a vet RIGHT NOW. Parvo can take his life very quickly. You need to watch her very carefully: the color and amount of the stool, of what she is throwing up, etc. BTW, if she is throwing up is better not to feed her nor give her water, it will only make it worst.

My 3 month-puppy had parvo very recently, and he made it, but I can tell you that you must prepare yourself for a very difficult week. Still, you must take your puppy t the vet NOW, luckily it won't be parvo (it can be something else) and he'll tell you what to do.

GOOD LUCK

the only puppy i bought before my 2 dogs that i now have was a little pug about 15 years ago, i spent alot on her and was sure that for the price she would be healthy, but about a week later she was hospitalized for parvo. the vet charged me very little, he also allowed me a payment plan, but it didnt work. my pugis buried in the pet cemetarie now, all because the breeder lied about her shots.
you need to take your dog to the vet, now!!! don't let her die a horrible death. while she is there, have her spayed. if you coulnt afford shots, you cannot afford pups.

I would get both of your dogs to the Vet and get the series shots they needed from the beginning and hope they can overcome the illnesses that you have subject them to, (regardless of expenses) as it is your responsibility to see that they get a fighting chance from the beginning. If you think it's too expensive to complete the series, wait till you see the bill for trying to save the poor animals! Sorry ...but that's it in a nut shell.

Don't waste your time reading copy and paste answers or reading anymore yahoo answers......Load both dogs in the car and get them to a Vet NOW!

I hear it's EXTREMELY contagious. There are no low cost vaccination clinics there? What about Petsmart or Petco? The Petsmart by us is less than $100.. I wanna say about $70 for all of their shots and they offer vet services, too.

I don't think the shot would help her now, though. She NEEDS to be seen by a vet.
