1 time I received a letter from a prominant natl pastor I wont mention his name. The letter was about a book he had just published. At that time I was going through alot with my wife, job it was a hard time in my life. I wrote him back saying how I was going through trials n really could use the book, however I didnt have ne funds to buy it, and if he could send me a free copy I would be forever grateful needless to say I havent heard ne thing from him in over 3 years. If u r truly doing the lords work then the mission should be to minister to those who r in need, not to make a profit. I told myself not to be surprised if I never heard form him again. The true work of the lord is to uplift those who need to be uplifted, n honestly that was 1 of the worst times in my life. I have fully recovered from that. No matter what denomination I believe their basic mentality is the same not to knock those who r doing uplifting I just dont think that it all should have a price. What went wrong?

I can understand your frustration. I don't know who the pastor was so I can't speak for him, but you need to remember that everything has a cost. It likely cost the pastor and his publisher considerable funds to produce the book and he can't give one away to everyone who asks. Most churches and ministries operate on donations and usually funds are very tight, despite the image portrayed by a few prominent television preachers and there are many demands and requests made on those limited resources. He probably should have given you the courtesy of a response but try to give him the benefit of the doubt before assuming that he is only concerned about money.

The solicitation you received was unlikely to have come directly from the pastor....rather, from the agency handling the book sale. If you replied to the address on solicitation, your request never made it to the pastor.

If you had contacted the pastor directly with your request, my guess is that he would have sent you a free copy.

BTW: 'Non-profit' does not mean 'no profit'. A church is a business, like it or not and it has expenses, payroll, etc. Further, it needs to reserve funds for future growth, charity work, repairs and maintenance to facilities, etc. Therefore, it must find ways to take in more money than it spends, just to remain a going concern. Where the 'non-profit' status comes in is that there are no shareholders or other investors or owners who are drawing dividends from the operating profits and fundraising proceeds. Everything is spent on the business of the church, whether it be current or future expenses.

Two things went wrong. First of all, either the pastor was out for money, or that the people who were in the mailroom lost your letter.

Its sad when a minister becomes more important than the ministry. It's also what caused Moses to lose out on the Promised Land because he felt that the ministry was his own effort, not God's.

Pst - when ended as written, then it's none perish.

MANY shall come...to DECEIVE...shall deceive MANY.
What part of the first and last "MANY" did you not get?
Perhaps you missed the "TAKE HEED" 101 class?
Escape involves "give more earnest heed": Hebrews 2.
Only other option is "no escape": 1Thessalonians 5:3.

Pst - Only what began can end: Law Law began.
Two "beginning"s: (i) OT: "fear" (ii) NT: "sorrows".
POINT: "Grace" is neither of two "laws" in Mt 22.

Eternal (His Grace) has neither "beginning" nor "end".

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Our church gives their material away. Most of the membership will cover the costs, or it is addressed through tithes and offerings.

The book thing is really an issue with me as well - profiteering in the name of God - It bothers me.

My Temple has spiritual books and CD's and they have a suggested donation price for them. They have to do that, or they would go bankrupt from giving away things at cost. But if someone wanted them and didn't have money for the donation, I'm pretty sure they would give them to you.

Religion is big business. It has always been that way since the beginning of time and always will be.

Your letter didn't get lost. It was shredded.
