Suppose somebody says, this is PP number

Person to Person call.

It's not a very often used abbreviation, nowadays.

PP number, however, means Private and Personal number.

Again, this is not commonly used, nowadays.

I would have assumed that a PP call was a person to person call.

PP could stand for "private party", i.e. a personal number.
