On V for Vendetta (awesome freakin' movie, btw!) they called it Egg in the Basket and Eggy in the Basket, but we always called it Egg in the Hole and make it when camping.
Butter a piece of bread, fold it loosely in half and take a bite out of the center, and unfold it again. Don't take a huge bite either, about the size of a golf-ball is perfect. (When I babysit kids, I've used cookie-cutters before.) Put it butter side down in a pan on medium-low heat and crack an egg into the bread hole. Leave it alone for a bit so the egg sets enough that you can flip it, then do so. You might want to melt a bit of butter in the bottom of the pan at this point, up to you. Just cook it until the egg yolk is cooked to your liking. I prefer over-medium.
It's really good. Something we like to do is shake on some black pepper and Lawrey's Garlic Salt with Parsely before fliping it, but that's all up to preference.

Hm.... This was a traditional recipe used to feed knights. I think it was called "humble knights" or something like that.. Haven't read the recipe in over a decade...
Anyways.. here's an extract from:
http://www.masterstech-home.com/the_kitchen/Recipes/Household_Helper_Recipes/BreakfastHelpers.html
6. Fry up eggs with hats. Take 1 piece of bread for each person and cut a round hole in
each piece with a cookie cutter. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a small non-stick skillet
and place the bread in it. Put the round piece in the skillet, too. Cook the bread over
medium heat until it is light golden on one side. Flip it over with a spatula, lower the
heat and break an egg into the hole in the large piece of bread. Some of the white will
run over the edges. Flip over the circle so it toasts on the other side. Lightly salt and
pepper the egg. Put a lid on the skillet and cook for a few minutes. Check to see if the
yolk is setting. When it is as hard as you like it, lift it out with the spatula and put the
circle of toast on top.
here, it's calling it "eggs with hats"

rocky mountain toast or frog in a hole. its delish, i had it for lunch, but i added two slices of crispy turkey bacon and dipped it into syrup! YUM! what u do is tear out a hole in the very center of a piece of bread, whole wheat is good. make it about the size of a golf ball, maybe a little smaller. then put it into a pan on the stove top, make sure to spray it with PAM first. allow one side to toast for a few minutes, then crack an egg in to the very center of the whole, allow it to cook for several more minutes. THEN once u think the egg has started to solidify quite a bit, flip it over again and let the other side finish cooking, make sure to cook the egg thru all the way, u dont want salmonella. thats pretty much it, u can add butter if u want, its not necessary tho. it tastes really good dipped in syrup.

We call it 'Toad in a hole' at my house. We use leftover french bread. Just slice it 1 in thick, cut a hole in the center with a glass or cookie cutter, butter both sides, put it in a non stick pan heated to medium, crack an egg in the center, wait a couple minutes til the bread is toasted on the bottom, salt and pepper the egg, flip the whole thing over and cook the rest of the way through. I like to put a slice of cheese on the top and melt it. Yum.
