a little grass (from the lawn) never seems to hurt - a lot probably means he's feeling a little unwell, because a lot will usually make him throw up. if there aren't pesticides or weed-killers on the grass, I wouldn't worry - but I discourage my dogs from over-indulging!

For years vets have failed to determine whether dogs and cats eat grass due to gastro-intestinal problems because dogs and cats without gastro-intestinal problems also tend to eat grass.
Dogs tend to like the texture of the grass. Remember most dogs are probably eating the same food day in day out. Many dogs will vomit after eating grass. This is because of a number of reasons:
1. It either did not settle well in the stomach.
2. Grass managed to enter the nasal passage whilst eating causing allergic reaction.
3. Grass contains chemicals which can cause severe harm.
I do not believe dogs use this a medicinal herb. Dogs simply do not have the intelligence to cure themselves in such a way. Many dogs tend to eat grass that has been urinated on, if they were that smart they wouldn't do that! In my opinion untreated grass will not harm your dog even if the dog vomits after consumption. Dogs simply like changing their diet just like we do.

Your dog is eating grass because his stomach must be hurting. Grass is to dogs what Rolaids are to us! It's okay to let him relieve his tummy ache, but be sure there isn't any chemical spray being used there that could cause him to become very ill. Have a great day! Annie

Cats and dogs naturally chew on grass to help their digestion. Also if they eat something that isn't good for them they might purposly make themselves throw up using grass... I don't think there's any harm in it as long as it's grass. There are several kinds of plants that are harmfull to dogs if eaten.
