How do you recognize a bastard for what he is?

I can never tell until it's too late, because they can really act well? They say/do the right things, act nice etc, and wham you fall in love, then they cheat/neglect/abuse you?

They will leave lots and lots of tiny clues. Note everything they do, to everyone and see how they act.

For example, if they yell at there sister a lot about how she lives her life....don't say to yourself 'oh he is just that way towards her'. If they act that way towards one person they will be that way to all.(the fact that he yells is bad enough)
