Get up early - less crowds - wear comfy shoes and layers so you can remove the icecream splattered ones.

Wear dark colours as you are bound to drip food down yourself and have dark glasses, they all wear dark glasses.

Get a digital camera as there is so much to take pictures of.

Take driving license if you want to get a bike or car.

If you ask for penne pasta make sure you say pennney ( extend the pronounciation of the N
because penne (penay) as we would pronounce it means pen*s in Italian!

enjoy!

Hi,

pack what you would for home... make sure you have a waterproof coat too.

Where to eat:
* Il Conte di Montecristo
Vicolo del Bologna 87/89 - Trastevere area
tel. 065813189
Booking is a good idea, as "Il Conte" is very popular with the Romans. They serve traditional Roman cuisine as well us seafood dishes. Zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies are grilled rather than deep-fried, making them a much lighter dish than the traditional version.
Outdoor area is perfect in summer. About 18 Euro (two courses and wine).

* Del Fico
Piazza del Fico 24/25 (near Piazza Navona)
tel. 066875568
Credit cards accepted: all
Bar del Fico is still one of the trendier hang-outs in the area.
They also function as a restaurant now and they serve mainly fresh seafood. The Alfresco area is overlooking the little charming Piazza, under an ancient fig tree. Not inexpensive: 30 Euro is average.

* Fortunato al Pantheon
Via del Pantheon 55
tel. 066792778
Credit cards accepted: all
It is not unusual to spot Italian politicians and movie stars here.
Fortunato specialises in meat dishes. 38 Euro average.

* Gusto
Piazza Augusto Imperatore, 9 (near Spanish Steps)
tel. 063226273
Credit cards accepted: all
Excellent traditional pizza at this interior designed restaurant and wine
bar. 36 Euro.

*Where to drink and hang out:
XXXX Pub
Via Galvani, 29
Australian-inspired pub with a jazz club.

* Big Mama - Music Bar
Vicolo San Francesco a Ripa, 18 (Trastevere)
Jazz and Blues music every night.

* Ombre Rosse Cafe
Piazza S. Egidio, 12

* Finnegan's Irish Pub.
Via della Suburra (near Cavour metro Station)

* San Crispino - ice creams
Via della Panetteria 42 (near Trevi Fountain)
Simply the best and most natural Gelato in Rome.
A legend among ice cream fans for its choice of organic ingredients.

* Parenti - Espresso bar & Patisserie
Via Ottaviano, 33 (near St Peter's)
Traditional Italian coffee and the most delicious shortbreads, pastries and cakes freshly baked on the premises.

* Tazza d'Oro - Espresso bar
Via degli Orfani, 84 (Pantheon)
Coffee is imported directly and roasted on the premises.

* Ancient Enoteca
Via delle Croce
Internationally cool place for aperitifs and snacks

What to see:
I highly recommend you take the walking tours by Rome Revealed or Enjoy Rome - particularly the ones on St Peters Basilica, the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel It really helps you to appreciate the genius behind what you're looking at if someone knowledgeable explains it to you...

Plus there are night tours of the catacombs below the city, and the fountains.

Have a great weekend - Rome is a great city
