I think maybe Sylvia thought he could cruise to an easy win against the "old guy" and took him too lightly.

Sylvia was out-classed. He was a lame duck champion who fought to retain the belt and nothing more. Randy used Sylvia's game plan against him by pressing the action and not getting caught by a counter punch. Couture utilized the double leg take down effectively, and Sylvia's sprawl was exposed. He's usually tall enough to get one leg back, but Couture shot in only when he could get both legs. Tim came into the fight without a strategy. He merely looked for a big right hand, and it never came. No matter who he gets a rematch against for the title, Sylvia's days as champ are over.

It had nothing to do with conditioning (yes couture had great stamina but watch the fight Tim wasn't breathing hard at all not even in round 5). It had to do with Randy's Gameplan, He knew Tim had power and didn't want to get hit so he trained extensively in striking and head movement. Randy knew he had a better chance on the ground so he used greco roman wrestling to take Tim down from the clinch. Randy came out with a great gameplan and executed it to a T. When Randy fights Cro Cop he will fight completely different, Cro Cop is better in the clinch but throws lots of kicks so Randy will probably use those kicks to take him down, this should discourage Cro Cop from kicking and give Randy a better chance, also if Randy bobs his head around against Mirko like he did Tim he will fall victim to a left high kick for sure.

It was not teh conditioning because for two rounds Randy was gasping for air. It was better planning, Randy exposed weakness in Sylvia's game and confused him. Sylvia could not figure out what Randy was going to do next, everytime Randy would make a movie Sylvia guessed wrong and would either get popped with a solid strike or taken down. Randy was prepared and executed a flawless game plan that Sylvia simply did not expect. Also, Randy's heart was a factor, he was determined.

I think you hit the nail on the head with better conditioning and his great wrestling background. Couture has a ton of heart and wanted to be champion again. Despite his age he knew he could move up in weight and beat Sylvia on skill, endurance, agility, and experience. If Couture was in Pride FC I don't think he would've been as inclined to go after the Heavyweight title, but in UFC iit s was there for the taking and he got the job done. He's a legendary fighter.

In order .....

#1. Better planning, Tim was so confident he was going to win he didn't really plan a specific attack for Couture.
#2. Better technique, Randy is constantly evolving in striking & grappling. Tim seems to not bring anything new to the table when he fights.
#3. Better execution, seizing the right moments to attack & not rushing into a bad situation.
#4. Couture had everything to gain, nothing to lose so he put everything he had out there & left it all in the ring when the smoke cleared.

Definately better cardio and he is a great wrestler, but he also showed great stand up skills that probably shocked sylvia...sylvia had a few easy wins in a row and probably took couture lightly. And as usual, tons of heart for Mr. Couture...thats why he is a hall of famer!

the place to start? Even a fifteen 2nd mma tournament remains greater exciting than the traditional 10 around hug-fest this is expert boxing. regardless of the hype, i wouldn't in any respect placed Couture interior the right 5 mma combatants. His checklist isn't that super. Brock, together with his enormous length/power income and perfect wrestling practise has a sturdy hazard of winning, exceedingly thinking Couture is in his mid-1940s. A Lesnar disenchanted would not coach something on the topic of the sport of mma. As to your element approximately an mma fighter not being the superb in each and each self-discipline, duh! the 1st "m" in mma does stand for blended! it fairly is like asserting NFL soccer sucks because of the fact the extensive receivers are not fairly as speedy as Olympic sprinters!

I think it's a combination of things. I don't think Sylvia was taking Couture seriously, for one thing, and I don't think Sylvia fights to win anymore, he just fights to not lose (in other words, he just stands around for five rounds so he can keep his belt). Sylvia has no heart and Randy is all heart.
