I like the space-saving aspect of pocket doors. Can these be installed in my existing home or are they only for new construction?

While it is a lot easier during new construction, pocket doors can be put in during remodels or just about anytime you desire.

They can be installed in existing homes but there are a lot of things to be considered. First you must take out part of the wall adjacent to the door, the size of the door. be prepared to maybe find wiring, plumbing, heating ducts, etc.You also then will have to patch (sheet-rock, tape, sand, paint, etc.) the pocket door frame itself. If you are planing on doing alot of remodeling anyway, this wouldn't be as big of a deal.

I like the spiral ones. They roll out side ways and back in and store, into a tall square case against the jam.
They use an upper track, and plug in with a cord if needed.

As long as you are putting one in a non-load bearing wall (which is most interior walls) it shouldnt be too hard....
