I can give you few links that deal with anti virus and anti spy wares. I think you have to select a standard anti virus. I have come across a website that gives a brief study on computer viruses and their removal. It is very useful. Please visit
http://jskproducts.co.uk/antivirus.htm Here they give details of free as well as paid anti virus programs.
You may also try to select and install a suitable anti spy ware from the following link to protect the Pc against spy ware attacks.
http://www.jskproducts.co.uk/spyware.htm . Here also free as well as paid software details are given!

The last time I had my computer "looked at", the guy (whom I trust completely) told me to start using Avira Antivirus instead of AVG; it works well and updates daily. The only drawback is the "nag" screen that comes up every time it updates; all you have to do is close it, but still. I also use Ad-Aware for adware, and CCleaner for other junk. CCleaner can be run daily because it only takes a few seconds, and it will take care of saved form information, cookies, and other stuff (in face, CCleaner is short for Crap Cleaner :) I have included links to all three; hope this helps!
