Make "being the perfect father" your most important goal in your life. You will not suceed, because no one is perfect, and no matter what you do there will be a point when your kid hates you, but I have found that your kid hating you is a good indication that you are doing the right things.

To be a perfect father is an unattainable goal, No such thing as a perfect father. All you can do is listen,comfort,always be there,communicate,discipline,raise your child to be a functional human being in this crazy world we live in.

That's impossible! No one is perfect! If that were true, I'd feel so sorry for you kid! LOL
Just be there for your kids. Support them financially and emotionally. Understand that kids have feelings also and you shouldn't belittle their ideas and beliefs just because you disagree with them either! Know that soon they will come into their own and stand by them as they chose their path in life. Not your path. And respect them if you want them to respect your opinions as well.

The thing I really enjoyed the mosth with my father growing up was spending time with him. I always liked it when he would take me to work with him or we'd sit and look at magazines together. Now, being grown up, I still look forward to getting together with him for dinner or watching something together on TV. We never really have deep conversations, but it's just nice to spend time together.

while no one is perfect, it's always nice for children to have a good father.
i think a good father takes the time out when their kids need them... and he respects his kids, which teaches kids to respect him back...
a good father listens.
a good father sticks to his rules, without being a tyrant about it.
a good father does his best to see his children are safe.

Always have time for your kids. Take them out at least once a week and spend time with them. Talk to them and build a trust with them so that they will confide in you in times of trouble.
