i dont understand why atheists have to act towards theists in such a derogatory way?
why are you so destructive and abusive?
im not generalising because i know alot that aren't like that. im just saying why are you like that!?!!?
why is it you have to give people such a hard time because they have beleifs and you dont.
you call us biggots and warmongers?
why is that so? because we dissagree with peoples ways of living and fight for what we believe in? we don't hate people and im not saying we are perfect. because alot of us are far from it.
but it doesn't give you a right to make us look like mental invalids because we don't agree with everything science shoves down our throats.
please give me your views on why people are so critical of other people these days and generalise us all like we are all prehistorically minded?

mayor "jd" an example of what i am saying is in things like sho-nuffs statement. "Instead we ask simple ones for the thiest's simple mind".
and tors statement "This is deliberately funny right"
this is exactly the thing i was talking about. these people don't care about offence because they're sitting behind a computer screen. its humourous to them.

thankyou for amount of responses
i really appreciate it whether i choose to agree or disagree with your view.
i think that all in all i was trying to say that we as theists are far from " and most of the time aware of" the fact of being perfect. i think because of a couple of fundies we are all slammed in the same category as them. and i think it has been the case with alot of the hardliner atheists aswell. a couple are like that and the rest are put in the hate category with the fundies. i think the best would be to agree to disagree. i know people could go on forever debating certain things. but at the end of the day its the choice of what we want to follow that we ultimately impact our lives.
i just hope that there are more people who are willing to sit down and discuss things in the future rather than go im right and your wrong and start with the abusive " and childish" comments.

btw creatrix.
i can understand that alot of people tend to argue against evolution with no back up whatsoever & to be honest they dont look like they could hold an arguement. but alot i know alot of theists that were very well educated in the field of biology.
my mother is studying anatomy and physiology at university. and alot of my relatives are in the field.
i take a passion in studying about things like biology and chemistry. and there were famous people like louis pasteur lets not forget he was catholic and far from an imbecile.

and to everyone who said that we are mental invalids, warmongers and biggots are just verifying everything i had said. dont think you can justify your words. its like a hateful theist trying to use their holy book to justify their hateful ways.

Okay children. Let's play nice. Why dont you just agree to disagree?
Athiests- You bring up some interesting points, but Don’t get pulled into the delusion that we know everything about science,. Remember, just a few hundred years ago we “KNEW” the world was flat, and it was “Impossible” to get to the moon. The spiritual exists in a separate dimension, and we haven’t the technology to work in dimensions, and there is just as much evidence of the spiritual and the paranormal, but scientists like to conveniently dismiss it, making them JUST as bad as the creationists they ridicule.
Creationists, and Theists- The Bible has been changed so much since it was written you wouldn’t even RECOGNIZE the original. Not to mention the fact that it was written centuries AFTER the death of Christ. Don’t believe me? Why do you think the Vatican wont release many of the original scrolls to the press? They Contradict the edicts the previous popes put into effect by making amendments to the bible. There was a time in history when every king ordered a revision to reflect current policy. And The Athiests do provide some compelling evidence of evolution, that it would be foolhardy to ignore. Knowledge is not the work of the devil.

I think that the main reason this happens is because of the continuous results of Religion.
There is no doubt that there are many smart, good theists in the world. But in most cases they are very liberal in their interpretation of their holy books. (Thank Goodness)
If Christians/Muslims/Jews become zealots and really act on their scriptures, it has always lead to persicution. We are seeing this take place in the middle east today. You have a certain percentage of the Muslim population who believe that Allah requires them to wipe Israel from the Map. On the other side you have the Jews who believe that they have a religious right to Jerusalem and are willing to kill to keep it.
Christians have been down similar roads throughout history, and just because they are 'enlightened' now, doesn't mean that the religion won't digress back to the violence exhibited in the past.
Because of these violent tendencies Atheists tend to be very mistrustful of religion and take every chance to highlight its flaws. This is always contraversal and causes many theists to react in a hurt manner. I am sorry that you feel belittled, but try to understand where the jibes are coming from. It is out of fear that religion will take over and we will be reverted back into a dark society. There is a reason the times after Rome fell were called the Dark Ages, that was the time when religion was in control of government.

It's mainly because believers are so badly behaved, particularly towards atheists.
Surely you've noticed that the atheists are the good guys here. Pretending that we "give people such a hard time because they have beleifs [sic] and [we] don't" is just an example of bigotry - surely you know that acting like a bigot in the middle of complaining about being called a "bigot" undermines your entire point, right?
Similarly, pretending that we call you names because you "don't agree with everything science shoves down [your] throats" is simply lying. Why wouldn't we point out that you're lying when that's what your entire argument depends on? You really don't leave us any choice - either sit here silently pretending that you're right, or point out that your argument is lies and bigotry.
You don't have a leg to stand on.

I've met a lot of blow hard atheists....one's who are real as*sholes about what they don't believe. I've also met some great ones.
Everyone is entitled to believe or not believe as they see fit.
We should all live and let live.
ANd really my friend, aren;t you being a little self righteous in your question? You're chastizing atheists for not believing as you do.
The arguements are ages old and no doubt, will continue until we're no longer a species. Believers vs the non believers.
At this point in my life, I'm not sure what I believe. I know its no longer the Catholic doctrine that was forced down my throat as a child. Life taught me that things can't be as I once thought.
I'd like to beleive there's more to life than this one shot we're given. I'd like to believe that the Bible IS the definitive divine word...I'm just really grappling with that and other things.
Christianity -in my opinion--doesn't always evolve with the times. I know--I know...the "Word": is good for all ages. But there's a practical approach to certain things where hard core Christians seem to fall short.
I don't know...I'm no expert. I'm confused myself.

I'm not an atheist, but let me answer anyway.
Often - certainly not always, but very often - people who make arguments with atheists on issues such as evolution show a gross misunderstanding of science and a less than adequate ability to communicate that gross misunderstanding. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
1. Do you believe that there is such a thing as Magick?
Not reallllllly
2. Do you believe Satan rules over Hell?
Yeah.
3. Do you believe Christianity and Islam are Pantheon religions?
What does pantheon mean?
4. Do you believe there are such things as Jinn and Demons?
Idk what jinn is but demons yes
5. Do you believe there are Angels and Archangels?
Mhm.
6. Do you believe Jesus of Nazareth used Magick and Miracles?
no
7. Do you believe old religions’ belief structures were copied by present religions?
Huh?
8. Do you believe there is only one God and He rules over all lesser creatures.
Yes I do believe in one god and that is jesus Christ and he rules and created all things.
9. Do you believe there is proof not connected to the Bible and Koran that there is only one God?
You don’t need any proof jesus left the holy bible and that’s all the proof we need you should take a look
Inside it all the things that god promised he fulfilled those promises and miracles and he gave up his one and only son to die on the cross for YOU and your sins because he loves you and yet people wanna reject him and need all this proof that should be enough
10.Do you believe that any JCMs can admit that all religions are viable and true using the same morale parameters as is used for their religions?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
I don't mean to disparage this poster, but clearly she believes the Bible, but does not have a particularly impressive education. Her grammar and punctuation are poor and her vocabulary is weak. If I were to put this young lady up against the best scientists of our time, I think we know whose argument would be more convincing.
As for biggotry and warmongering, religious folk tend to back the war in Iraq (or at least they did when it began) and favor state-sanctioned discrimination such as bans on gay marriage. A marriage is not a religious issue, or we would ban atheist marriages as well. The state has no business telling people with whom they may pledge their lives, but religious people tend to think it does.
Again, this is certainly not an indictment of all religious people, but it does explain the root of atheist irritation.

After reading your answers, I did a check of the Q&A, one full page. Most of the questions were anti-religion in nature, from snide to crude. Within those questions, there were 18 to 20-plus back-slapping respondents, even more crude.
There were a couple of religious-type questions with only religious answers. Refreshing.
There were a few religious-type questions with a large % of answers from non-religious, but expressing no intelligent thought, just name calling, often foul language.
Are there religious people who are rude, crude and crass? Absolutely, and I regret them and apologize for them. However, if you spot check, you'll find they are a tiny % of the nasty people at this site.
Anyone who says that most of the completely classless behavior here is coming from the religious is dishonest. Anyone can perform the simple count that I did and have done two or three other times, just out of curiosity.

I'll have you know some of my best friend are theists. My brother even married one!
All kidding aside, I wouldn't want anyone to just accept what science says. On the other hand, if that reluctance is solely based on: "It goes against the written word of God," then I think it's quite appropriate to question that person's commitment to critical thinking - at least on the point is question.

There are Fanatics in every group. But I think the image given by the media, which is mainly the Mainstream Religions, is what many of them go by. I'm sure even the ones who act like that have friends who are Theists. If not, they are just as bad as the one's they complain about. =)

You most certainly ARE generalizing.....or else you would have said "some atheists. Christians are religious biggots and warmongers. We do not mind that fact that you disagree or believe....but we mind very much that you are willing to fight over a BELIEF. It makes you no better than Muslims. You also don't have to agree with everything science says, but most christians are completely ignorant of it. Christians have shown themselves to be mental invalids time and time again. Christians don't seem to have the ability to look outside their own dogma.
(I don't mean to generalize....doesn't feel so good does it)

As one of the above answers said ,we're just having some fun.
The people we're criticising are the fanatical *** who stuff religion down our throats and act as if its all normal & there is a SET way of life that everyone MUST adhere to. Not the moderates who keep religion to themselves , We've nothing against them. Faith is a personal thing , & we respect that .
