The smoke haze is in North Thailand, around the Chiang Mai area. Bangkok and Phuket are not affected.

As indicated by other posters, the smoke haze is in the northern region of Chiangmai. Bangkok and Patong Beach in Phuket are not affected.
In Chiangmai, seems bad enough to envelop the city in haze and having people needing to put on face mask to counter the smog.

Chiang Rai is the area that is affected! - the northern most province. Pathong and Bangkok are not affected at all.
In Chiang Rai they have a 'burning season' where they burn weeds and excess wood....etc... It is a form of cleansing.
I do not recall if it is burning season now but they also practice this when it is not burning season.
When I was living there, there were a few small brush fires reported. It is no surprise that there was this disaster, since Thais can be very negligent sometimes with the environment and consideration for people's safety.
