I've had 7 Boxer's in my life and ALL of them have been wonderful with children. Boxer's are NOT naturally agressive dogs - here is a sentence on the AKC website (where you can find alot of answers about Boxers) "Boxers are happy, exuberant dog who delights in children and is eager to play long after he has left his puppyhood behind". I do agree with the statement that any dog is only as good as his trainer- do not harshly discipline your Boxer or it may have a hint of aggression. My kids lay on mine, play contantly with them, and they sleep with them at night. Very protective of my children!

Boxers can be OK with kids, but the puppy should be selected carefully for temperment. My friend had wanted a boxer for her family, which included one older child and two younger children. She was an experienced dog owner married to a vet who had owned a rott before. The pup she chose ended up being a very dominant female that was difficult to train and tended to bite and play too roughly with her kids. She ended up returning the puppy to the breeder after about 2 months who found a home without children for this pup. She went on to find a puppy of a different breed for her family that has worked out well.
At the same time, her friend with children of the same age chose a less dominant male puppy from the same litter who worked out just fine. So, bottom line, since they are big strong, protective dogs, find a good breeder and work with them to pick up a puppy with the right temperment for children.

animals are only as good as their trainers.
puppies are more work than children, unless you are willing to devote 24/7 to your new puppy for at least the first 3 months for training, it will be a hard process. Look into adoption you will be able to look for a proven good history with children. there are nationwide adoption services that could help. If you are still wanting a puppy I would investigate different breed clubs to get the merits of each breed. German Shepards are excellent kids dogs if raised right as well as retrievers and labs. Great Danes love kids but tend to knock them over with their love...some small dogs do well with children but cant keep up or may be hurt while playing... getting a dog is a BIG decision.
My lab of 10 years gently growled at me not long ago when I walked in the bedroom where her and my infant neice were sleeping. Kind of funny...10 years her and I have been insepratable and she still protects any kids in her sight. when my neighbors child plays, even a stranger cant come in the yard but the child will crawl all over and maul the dog and remain unharmed. all in the training you provide and the breed you pick

All dogs are good with people, especially to children, so it' s really up to you how you train them: a good temper or bad temper. Remember, never let the dog feels that it is your boss, or else you cannot get it under control, even you scold it, it is no use. And especially that is a big dog like a Boxer, your child will easily get hurt if it attacks. Hope it helps! ^_^

all dogs can be good with children but also remember even the best dog could bite, I had a boxer she was a great dog. Just remember it is all about how you raise the dog.

I have 2 boxers and 3 kids and my dogs are very good with kids...and my female boxer is good at eating whole loaves of bread, cinnamon rolls, garbage or anything else that isn't locked away, but my male is a good dog and hardly even barks. Yes, they are very hyper.

Boxers are pretty nice, but they can be really aggressive. It's not the BEST dog for kids, but it should be ok. I reccomend a wheaten terrier, they don't shed, are hypoallergenic, and they are sooo sweet!

absoulutly. I had one before and they are great. However, they stay in a puppy stage for about two years. You may want to consider obidience school. They are over all GREAT pets!
