Its a culture thing - back in the day when fat = beauty and wealth (only the richest people had money for meats and other foods with fats - more than just bread and patotoes basically), everyone wanted to be fat.
Nowadays, skinny = beauty, everywhere we look in the media, its telling us that to be beautiful is to be thin and toned (muscluar if you are a guy).
As far as living longer - I would say myth. Sure, obesity is a huge factor for heart disease and such. BMI is little use when considering life span. People who have low BMI have the highest rates of death - people who are overweight (not obese had lower rates.
Here is a short article from Mayo Clinic (a very respectable health center)

A myth.
Also people are obsessedwith being skinny because of the media.
We've notice when an actress loses alot of weight all of a sudden she's getting better roles and wins oscars.
People treat you better when you are skinny.
They like to feel little and petite.
The emancipated model look.
When your clothes feel looser on you, it tricks your mind into giving you more energy because you feel so light.
Whenever you have a slight bloat in stomach or noticable fat you feel ugly.
Especially with tabloids as soon as a actress gains a little weight they poke fun.
Celebrities they concider fat are actually super skinny compared to the average woman who's not on t.v so when they are made fun of the average woman wants to be that skinny because if their saying this celebrity is fat what must they think of me?
Personally i think the most beautiful woman are the ones who are at a healthy weight, but that could just be me.
Too skinny they look like little boys.
That's the worlds way i guess, nothing taste better than skinny to these people!
I just hope the little girls of today will grow to change this obsession with the idea that skinny is the way to be!
Good question

Well, it depends. If the skinny person is aneroxic or bulimic and are skinny they're hurting heir bodies. Skinny people don't necessarily live longer, but neither do "fat" people. It's not usually about size, it's about what's going on inside the body like the foods you eat and how much you exercise. But you do get skinnier from that, but you can't assume ALL skinny people are healthy b/c it could be some disorder.
hope that helps!

People within their proper weight range generally live healthier lives, not necessarily longer. Being skinny has been fostered on the public as being beautiful. Personally my preference is to be with people who are within their weight range, neither being skinny nor heavy.
Remember, life is a terminal condition. Enjoy!

There are a multitude of reasons for being "skinny".
1. Skinnier people get paid roughly 30% more than obese people do.
2. Skinnier people live healthier lives, meaning that obese generally don't do anything wheras skinnier people tend to be active
3. And yes, skinnier people do tend to live longer as they're not beset with the complications that being overweight induces. Skinnier people don't normally get diabetes, have high blood pressure, and have less risk for heart disease.

now adays TV has everyone thinking the only way to be beautiful is to be skinny. I personally have been skinny all my life and I have seen how people treat ones who are "bigger" and I just have a fear of not being liked although i know its whats inside that counts. To bad some people dont see it that way

maximum adult men make women human beings experience as though they gained't be enjoyed except they are skinny. Plus the consistent Victoria's secret labeled commercials and those forms of issues do no longer help out the two. maximum women human beings opt for to be universal. however the girls human beings i recognize do no longer inevitably desire to be skinny. maximum desire a flat abdomen, toned legs, greater effective breasts and a effective butt. yet no longer many human beings actual have all of those issues. - yet that's some thing maximum adult men like me locate eye-catching. So standard it incredibly plenty comes right down to confirm rigidity.

There's a difference between being skinny & between being healthy.. If your weight is in proportion to your height - you're healthy. If less or more - we have a problem. Healthy people live longer.

Some people that are fatter can live to be happy longer. It depends on how healthy they are. A person should get seven or eight hours of sleep, eat healthy, drink water and get exercise then they will be healthy. Well, thats in my opinion

Well...yeah!! Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death in the U.S. and we cause it ourselves by consumption!! Skinny people are healthier than overweight people. We were meant to eat veggies, nuts, and meats. Years ago there were no such things as chips, cookies, and french fries. They were not meant for our bodies. People SHOULD be obsessed w/ being skinny but not for vanity reasons.....for HEALTH reasons. Fat can cause heart problems and clogged arteries...yucky.
