That's why I love Texas. If someone breaks into my house, I'm putting a 9mm round through them. The exit wound has to be through the back(from what I've heard). So what I'd do is sneak up to where I can see them, and then make a noise to get them to turn around. I take security and safety of my family and home seriously. Charges can't be pressed if it looks like self defense and you can shoot to kill in Texas.

It varies from state to state. You need to ask an attorney as to what the law in Alabama is. In Texas we can shoot any unlawful intruder. If they don't belong in the house they are considered dead to put it bluntly. I would ask a lawyer about the law.
Also, here in Texas, the criminal can not sue you if you just injure him. In some states they can sue if they get hurt while on your property, or in your house which is totally absurd. The politicians suporrting that need to be voted out of office. Most usually those are the politicians that are for gun control and on the far left who say criminals are a victim of society and we as a society should basically pamper them and feel sorry for them. I say, feel sorry for the victims and just shoot to kill and save the tax payer a lot of money in court costs and prison costs. But that is just my opinion. Aim careful and make your first shot count. That is true gun control.
By the way, Txgirl is wrong about Texas. You can shoot them outside your house as well depending on the situation. Here in El Paso a man caught an illegal stealing his car out of the drive way and shot and killed the perp. Texas Attorney General said it was perfectly legal. You also have the right to shoot to kill robbers of stores, rapists, etc... While a few police and far left libs don't like this, the rest of Texas does. Just look at what people say in polls done here and the laws.

There have been cases where the intruder actually sued the person who caused them harm or bodily injury. Although they broke into that person's home they were successful at winning the case. Now, be sure not to shoot him in the back, or if he falls after he trips, or if he's not quite through the doorway, or if he wears glasses, or if he has taken an amount of goods that don't total $500.00 dollars. Sike up, who cares.....i'm with u, ask questions later.

You have to show that you were threatened and that you could not escape. You would think that you can just shoot someone who trespasses, but that is not always case. If he has a gun just give him what he wants. You can replace things not people. The odds that you can get to your gun in a small apartment are slim. You should really think about getting a alarm. Get a model with a panic button and central station monitoring . If you do decide to buy a gun & use it just detaine him and call 911. It's alot cheaper and safer to just buy renters insurance. I sell insurance for a living. You can get a policy for less than $200. a year. Be safe.

Unless the laws have changed here in Canada, if you shoot a person that has broken into your home you must prove that you believed that your life was in imminent danger and had no choice but to shoot. If you prove it was a case of "him or me" then you will not go to jail, but it is a hard thing to actually prove, especially if the burglar didn't have a weapon.

If they have broken into your house, at least here in Georgia, you can, in fact you MUST shoot them. As long as you feel your life or that of another is in danger. Key is to be sure to kill them to avoid litigation by the shoot-ee.
I have a .357 Magnum next to the bed and you better believe I would use it.

Check your state law on that. Here in California, its a shoot first ask questions later. eg: We can shoot any intruder and will not be arrested.

It depends greatly on what State you live in. Utah law say's that anyone illegally entering your residence can be shot. No questions asked. All that you have to be is in fear for your life or property. Other States are less friendly to their citizens and more friendly to criminals. You'll need to check your own State's specific laws on self-defense in the home.

you point a gun at them, and if they tend to take out a weapon, shoot their arm that is holding the weapon, they will eventually drop it. and then ask questions and if that dont work, get the phone asap and call 911 while looking at the guy in case he does something. if he gets up and gets the weapon and manage to hold it, shoot his arm again. then just drop the phone, so the police knows your in big trouble. if you don't own a gun, then i suggest you practise good aiming, so you can just use knives.
