1 John 2: 15-17: "Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16Â because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17Â Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever."
Notice the very last statement, or promise..."he that does the will of God remains forever". That is a pretty bold statement being that we do grow old and die, but since God does not lie, then we have to assume that this is true. With that in mind, read the next few verses...
Psalm 37: 9-11, 29: "For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. 10Â And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11Â But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. 29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it."
Matthew 5:5: "“Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth."
Yes, we do grow old and die, so how is it possible that we will inherit the earth, what gives us this hope?
Acts 24:15: "and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. "
John 5: 28: "28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice  and come out,"
Jesus went on to give us an example to show us that he can do this, to resurrect someone who has died to life again, on earth (his friend Lazarus had already been dead for 4 days when he resurrected him!)
John 11:23-24: " Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” 24Â Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
Pay careful attention to the next verse, because it gives excellent advice on how to find out what the Bible really teaches, because it is vital that we know the truth instead of following the doctrines and traditions of men which are so misleading (Revelation 12:9: "So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth;")
1 John 4:1: "Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world"
It is vital, also, then to find out what the will of God is. Diligent study of the Bible will help , but it is important to have help, that is why we offer free Bible studies with anyone who is in the least bit interested in learning what the Bible really teaches. We do not do this for any reason other than to serve our God and to help our neigbors gain accurate knowledge.
John 17:3: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
You are right, that if one chases the things of this world for fame, riches, and power...it is futility, because the end of it afterwards is death. Their reward has already come and been had. However, there is a very large reward for the ones who "seek God's kingdom"
Matthew 6:33: "“Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to YOU."

The purpose of being loving, happy, working and making a life for our self is not so that we will become popular and loved by strangers, or rich. It is so that we will be able to not only fulfill our dreams and do the best with our abilities. It is also that we will be able to provide the food and shelter that is needed for our families and to also be able to keep ourselves & loved ones mines at ease by making everything more comfortable when ever our death may occur. If we do it the way that you are talking about then we will end up living a very unhappy &selfish life. We should always think of our families/others as well not only our selves.
At least we will know that we did our best and that our families will be finacally secured when we are gone.
God Bless!

You have a good point. There a reason. As spirit soul we are eternal, active and with desires by nature. These propensities are manifested in a perverted reflexion in the material body, and therefore even we know that we are going to leave everything at the time of death, we are been driven by our lusty desires of enjoying and exploiting this material nature, as much as we can, and for been absorbed in that, we completely forget about our real identity and the goal of life.
As you pointed out, a simple life and high thinking is recommended, and engage in spiritual eternal activities. But, since we posses a material body also, we have to execute the duties regarding the body, and the duties that are imposed by the mundane world. We can not desire less and inactive, that is unnatural. By having in mind the ultimate goal of a human form of life, that is going back home back to Godhead, your designated time of your life in this material world, will be peaceful and happy and you will contribute wit a great welfare to the human society.

you SHOULDN'T worry/think about death. it will happen to us all one day but NON of us know when. nobody knows if they will live to 110 or die in a freak accident tomorrow. who cares if you live an ordinary life? most of us will have a less than ordinary life anyway! as long as you're remembered as a good person and not a degenerate i think you will have served a purpose. don't think about tomorrow and live for today. life may be short but it's the longest thing we'll ever do so have fun and make your mark =)
