Clark Kent, or Superman as he is commonly known, never went to a Christian Church did he?

No. And he fought for, Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

See that! We have Superman on our side, while they have Jesus.

Do you think that our comic book hero is better than their comic book hero?

Oh good! Superman vs. Jesus! Maybe if we posit Superman as an individualized version of the Ubermensch of Nietzsche, he might have potential to break out of his DC Comics frames. But, alas, Superman was created and evolving by another's hand! However, since he is so popular, he has been disseminated into the minds and imaginations of millions. Perhaps by this route he may break out...is Superman simply a human conception of what an idealized individual should be? Superman seems to live within the framework of human society, disguising himself as Clark Kent to go about daily life undetected. And yet, he feels compelled to fight crime and uphold modern societal standards. From whence does this mandate come? From his parents, who raised him as human? Or is he making use of his natural superiority and melding it with his human code of morals and ethics? The fact that there is a defined weakness, the Kryptonite, a relic also of Krypton, his destroyed home planet, means there is some fatal flaw in Superman; he is less than Superman. Only by meeting this challenge, facing the weakness and understanding it, can he move beyond it (or create a really good anti-Kryptonite suit).

As I see it, Superman is hiding, not achieving full realization, not living up to his potential. But this is somewhat necessary if he is the Last Man of Krypton. The question is: how can he be fully realized as his own Ubermensch? How can the comic hero jump off the page? These answers and more...not given here! This has been a free-flowing ramble...

Oh yeah, Jesus didn't fight for the American Way, since there wasn't an America back then. It depends on your denomination as to whether he might have fought for the Native American Way. And it appears that ego was less a part of Jesus than of Superman; thus Superman stands out as an actual "superhero," while Jesus is more of a philosophical "prophet" or "messiah," whose works are done on a larger scale because they are disseminated throughout a mass of believers. So, is it better to have one man with superpowers, or one man with millions of followers?

P.S. I don't know if any of you have seen Kill Bill part 2, but you might remember David Carradine's interesting and insightful Superman speech near the end, where he tells Beatrix that Superman's Clark Kent disguise is a mark of his take on what an earth-human is--timid, unassuming and basically spineless. Is that what Superman thinks of mankind?

And the pagan girl has to weigh in now.
I have nothing but respect for Jesus, a small minority of his followers I take issue with. Jesus himself taught a really good message. Most of the really ‘I’m God’s son” stuff wasn’t added into the bible till much later. Jesus was a great man, and wonderful teacher who taught the lessons he learned from the Druids to people who needed the message.

I do agree though that Superman rocks, but my favorite Comic Book Superhero is Sailor Moon.

To the Batman pushers- Batman isn’t technicly a superhero as my comic- informed husband constantly reminds me. He’s a Hero. To be a superhero you must be more than Human. Batman was a human that just got really pissed, and had the money for bouku gadgets.. I do like the Dark Knight though- just sayin..

What I like about Superman is that he had his alter-identity, Clark Kent. He didn't go around town saying "hey, see what I did? Worship me! Look how great I am." He never asked for a following. He earned one. He was just a regular guy with extraordinary talents, and he used them for good sans the glory. IMHO, that makes superman a better person let alone a better hero.

LOL! In my point of view (Deist) I see that Jesus wasn't a hero or anything, he was just a good moral mentor, but surely not a god, and surely wasn't crucified for people's sins, and didn't write the bible. That's how I see it.
-- And by the way, Superman is weak towards Krypton, isn't he? While Jesus, in a Christian point of view, was invincible!

Of course he is better. Could Jesus have taken Zod? I don't think so. And remember when Superman threw all those nukes into the sun, in a big net? Awesome.

I really think we should adopt batman as our superhero because he's kinda dark and brooding and not only is that hot- but I find it more relatable than the big toothy smile of superman. But either way we definitely came out on top!!

Yes Superman fought crime while according to the bible Jesus told his henchmen to steal a donkey for him. Jesus is more like Lex Luther.

Luke 19:29-34 "[Jesus] sent two of his gang members , Saying, Go into town. You will find a donkey tied up, steal him and bring him to me. And if they catch you stealing him, Tell them you are stealing him because the boss needs him. (parallels in Matthew)

Well, Superman never made any money saving the world from Solomon Grundy. And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him.
