I'm a freshman in high school. I have to do a speech tomorrow in front of my class of about 20 people. When I do speeches, I get nervous and stutter. What can I do to not be nervous? Please help!

Hey! ^_^

I don't do speeches usually, but I do play piano. I have to be on a stage all the time with people watching my every move. Here's the trick to staying calm: keep your mind at peace. Before I perform, I say to myself, "I am fine. I don't need to worry. The people in the audience are positive people who want me to do well. I'm going to do a good job. In fact, I'll do an awesome job."

Take deep breaths before you speak. Stay focused, and don't let your mind wander from what you need to make a speech about. Bring water to stay hydrated, too. Just keep a clear head about things, and you'll do awesome!!!

Hey, keep watching NASCAR!! :)

practice your speech in front of a mirror...until you cannot stand it.
When you are in front of your class, pick out one person, preferably your best friend in the class and speak to that person. Don't worry, the rest will hear and the instructor will wonder just how you found out so how to speak in public so comfortably.

At least that's the 'tricks' that I use. I also _HATE_ to speak in front of people...
I've been so nervous over it as to puke at times..

hey kayla, i hated speeches too, still do as well. like the other people have been saying here too, pretty much everyone hates it. but the best thing you can do is just make sure you are prepared well: know the stuff you have to talk about. when you are up there and start talking, you probably wont be thinking about how nervous you are. when i did that i just started talking about my topic. before i knew it, it was over. i usually tried to focus on certain objects in the room too, but i wouldnt focus on just one thing. basically, just make yourself as comfortable as possible with what you are gonna talk about. that and you can practice a little. i usually didnt do that because i didnt want to end up trying to script and memorize what i was gonna say. i think its best to be confident in your knowledge of what you're gonna talk about. that way you can just go up there and speak about it.

Make sure you rehearse your speech throughly before you get up there. Remember that you are in charge while you are up there and that your classmates have been there too. relax, these are people you know, and if you rehearse enough it is a subject you know, so pretend like you are just talking to your buddies.
