In 1 Corinthians 13, the Word of the Lord talks about the quality and significance of love. In the last segment it notes "where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge , it will pass away. For we know in part and and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears." Our knowing in part will be replaced by us knowing in full. As such I was wondering, how much effort should we put in to knowing in part. I think there is the temptation of wanting to know everything... but that seems impractical, because it wont give us time to simply practice the truths we arleady know (theoretical vs. practical). Where do you think a healthy balance is?

Nothing wrong with earthly knowledge....

But in heaven we will have perfect knowledge (1 Cor 13:12)
We can strive to be intelligent here....but I don't make it a priority because this is not my permanent home anyway.

Striving for Knowledge almost always adds to the greater good. Without it we would all still be living in grass huts and eating bugs.

I think Paul was making a point about how striving for Miracles and the supernatural would alway lead to misery, especially when they don't appear. So Christians should focus on striving for Love, as it would be a better witness to God. Striving for knowledge isn't bad as long as it isn't used as a hammer to persecute people.

Too many Christians these days focus on their denominational beliefs and use that "knowledge" to ostracize and demonize others, including other Christians.

I am not a Christian anymore, there are several reasons for this, but one of the main reasons is that most Christians today are focused on power and increasing numbers verses genuinely helping others.

There is more charity and good will provided by non religious groups who focus on their communities and the poor, and to me there is more value in providing tangible help to people than their is in trying to convince them to agree to a certain belief structure. Christians have lost the tradition of helping others. When was the last time you heard about a Christian organization doing charitable work that didn't include a evangelistic drive? They are very few and far between.

When it speaks of that which is perfect, It talks about the completion of the New Testament. When We have the Bible, We don't need anything else. It is the source of knowledge and wisdom.

I want to know it all, this is only right. It is my destiny as every ones. The dream of the world must be overcome, or we will die in our sleep.
