nice question.. nwe, the rectangular shape of flags makes it possible for us to tie it at two ends in which one is a little far on top of the other that balances the cloth and makes it go with the wind..you can tie a circular flag into a flag pole.. its quite easy you know.. but the problem is it wont wave/sway with the wind.. it would just look like a piece of cloth hanging on the flag pole.. unless of course you would have a circular flag made of plywood or something harder other than cloth that does not fold

would flap in the wind well and hard to get on a pole if round.
