what if these men had fought in a catchweight of 164?

Wow. This fight may prove to be boring. Wright fights defensively, and Calzaghe is starting to fight in a safety first fashion, too. Wright will have a definite advantage in defense and stamina. Calzaghe will have the edge in power and speed. Both men will be equal in chin.
I see this fight definitely going the distance. The early rounds will be taken by Calzaghe. The middle rounds will be taken by Wright. I think both men will split the later rounds. I see this fight ending in a majority draw.

This would be a great fight on paper, and an easy victory for Winky Wright if it ever happens. Calzaghe has never faced a boxer the caliber of Wink. A straight ahead busy puncher with no real top class experience against the best counter puncher arguably in boxing. I like Calzaghe, but Joe is taylor (pun intended) made for Winky.

The only edge Calzaghe would have at 164 is Wink would be coming up in weight. It wouldn't be enough.

Winky Wright by decision.

Hmmm...Calzaghe is quoted in Boxing Monthly as saying he would "destroy" Wright, as he'd be too big and too busy.

I'm not so sure. Calzaghe is getting on now, and he says that he is finding it harder and harder to keep his body at 168. How much would would getting down to 164 take out of him?

Calzaghe has a lot of heart, determination and good punching power, whereas Wright is an amazing boxer with fast hands, a great jab, great reflexes and mobility. For me, Winky would look to throw lots and lots of jabs and counter shots against the harder punching Calzaghe in this classic boxer vs boxer-puncher matchup between two of the best fighters today. There are a lot of people saying that Calzaghe has let the Lacy win go to his head. Whether or not this is true, I would give this fight to Calzaghe on a split decision.

I think that Jeff Lacy victory has gotten to Calzaghes head and he wouldn't prepare himself for Wright like he should. I did remember hearing somewhere that Calzaghe said he could beat Wright but i don't think so. Wright is a great all around fighter with speed, power, defense and offense. I'd give this fight to Winky.

I have a lot of respect for Calzaghe especially after watching him destroy Jeff Lacy the way he did. He has an explosive offense, and great skill too. However I think that Winkey's defense would cause Calzaghe much frustration, and Write would probably out box him to a unanimous decision.

At 168 Wright boxes circles around Calzaghe. No need to fight at a catchwieght. Wright says he'll have no problem with making the added weight to fight Hopkins. They have an agreement to come in at no higher than 170.
