both posts mentioning Alberta as being rife with work are correct - - HOWEVER there is a CRITICAL housing shortage in Calgary and Fort McMurray.. It might be tough finding accomodations for a young family... with temperatures dropping to the negative double digits in winter, you don't want to be homeless with young ones in Alberta.. seriously - workers are living in cars there, its that bad.
Both Toronto and Vancouver have plenty of employment opportunities and available housing - but the cost of living is high.
Vancouver's got the mildest weather by a long shot.. today, the sun is shinging and cherry blossoms are inbloom - while the rest of the country is mostly still covered in snow. With the 2010 olympics comeing and a redhot housing market - there is quite a lot of construction and related work in Vancouver

Because I'm from the Toronto area I would press you to try moving here once you get accepted as an immigrant to Canada. However if you want INSTANT employment in just about any field of endeavour I would have to say the Calgary Alberta is the place to be. There is a very great labour shortage brought on by the oil boom and wages are high but so are living expenses but I know many people working out there and they love it. It is a great not too big city with all anyone could want. Good luck!

Having grown up in Canada, I would have to say that from a good schools, lots of outdoor stuff to do, family perspective, then Ottawa was great. It is very clean and orderly. Job-wise however, it can be tough because it is basically a one-horse town, and that horse is government. For a better balance Toronto in parts can be good. Its great downside is that it is becoming more like LA - a sprawling megalopolis with very real gang violence and a day doesn't go by without a shoot out. Maybe out west is better.

Hi, We have just started the same process.
We are using a company called CAN AM who are sorting everything out for us.We are applying as a skilled worker.
You are looking at 3-4 year wait to get it all sorted as Canada have a very limited number of people they let in every year hence the backlog.
Give them a try, www.canamglobal.com
GOOD LUCK MATE.

Toronto is the best place. But if you are looking for immediate employment - I heard in other provinces people even get payed just to stay and work there.

If you are looking for immediate, good paying work, the best place to go is Northern Alberta. They are desperate for employees and will pay almost anything. It's a little chilly there but you will make big bucks
