1. Agreed.
2. Universities reserve a number of places for mature age, overseas, high school leavers enrty. The overseas students pay the maximum cost for their education unless they are living here and apply through QTAC.
3. True on some level, but I am more concerned that we are not catching any of the rain we do get. Denying entry into the country wont fix our water problem. I have no problem conserving water...but what water?
4. Dont vote Labour. They spend it on visual projects such as artsy monuments...Liberals are the ones doing the hard work behind the scenes. ie better sewerage, . Unfortunately people dont vote for what they cant see.
5. Yes, that sickens me.
6.What are we supposed to do? Sit on our hands?
7. The biggest fossil fuel users have not signed this treaty. Only a few insignificant countries have actually signed this. Climate crisis is definately debateable. We are due for the next climate change. It has happened periodically for millions of years. Yes, I agree we contribute to warming but I am skeptical on the severity.
8. The baby boomers started retiring this year. You watch...in five years time houses will be plentiful because they will be selling up for their retirement. And when there are plenty on the market, it becomes competitive. Also, the very people whinging about the price of houses are doing the following .....a) looking for a luxury home, b) smoke / drink / dine out $100 a week c) own ipods, video games mobile phones and all sorts of gadgets d) are living at home with mummy and daddy, not paying rent and not saving and living the high life. You cant afford both.
9. Yes, we need more zero tolerance on racial discrimination, but it is still alot better than other countries.
Be careful what the media feeds you. Dont be told what to think but teach yourself how to think. And dont believe everything you hear...go and research both sides of the story. Media chooses what they reveal. This is how society is easily influenced.
No, Australia as a whole is not heading towards a difficult period, just a percentage of us...the Y generation. They spend to much and do too little.
People our age (and I am guessing you are 20 something) have never known hardship. We are living in a plentiful society at the moment and that should never be taken for granted.
We are due for a low, but thats how it works. Soon enough it will go up again. It is called Economy.
I am securing my future...are you?

A pretty odd rant coming from the far left and far right simultaneously
1. Letting traumatised Immigrants in from Africa who are totally from a differnet foreign way of life.
**NO: it is a value judgement. Australia allows in a proportion of the wreched of the earth, even if they are unlikely to become tax-paying intensive care nurses within the next three years (although many who come on humanitarian visas do quite well). But look at it this way: I doubt any Australian has yet been killed by a Somali refugee, whereas we probably have saved several who would otherwise have been slaughtered.
2. Letting overseas students use the University system and blocking Australian Students from Using their home Unis.
**NO - foreign students pay full price; they can't even get concession fares on public transport. It is the responsibility for the uni to ensure they spend money from both the foreign and domestic students allows them to serve all students adequately and equally.
3. Allowing Immigration into this country when there is a pending Water Crisis
*NO: better to build dams and stop subsidising cotton farmers
4. Letting its Cities get too big to cope with infrastructre which is aging and expensive to maintain
*YES - well the second part. However there are three ways to maintain cities, or in fact do anything - either PAY for it as a user, PAY for it as a tax-payer, or PAY for it as a borrower (if the government borrows money it causes interest rates to rise)
5. Allowing a mentality of Political Correctness silence those in opposition to the above ?
YES - but I think all Australians have matured. The left no longer is locked in a mindset of class warfare. The right is much more socially progressive than it was decades earlier
6. Going into Invade Iraq with America, and disobeying International Law.
NO: My interpretation is that Iraq was in breach by not cooperating with the inspectors. Would you say it is a criminal offence to speed off to avoid a booze bus, even if you are sober?
7. Not signing the Kyoto Treaty, and acknowledging there is a Climate change crisis underway ?
NO - Signing (and implementing) the Kyoto Treaty would be vastly expensive and do a thimbleful load of good in addressing climate change (China and India pollute like crazy and can do this with impunity under Kyoto). Solar, geothermal and wind energy cannot replace coal fired energy sources, gas is too expensive and nobody wants to touch nuclear
8. Allowing the Housing Market to become so overinflated in price, that there is a Shortage in both rent and houses which can be bought.
YES - Australian housing is expensive, but nobody wants to release more land coz it costs states too much.
9. Allowing and promoting the failing manifesto of Multicultralism which is just tribalisation, and fragementation of society, all for the sake of business
NO - The left is beginning to question multiculturalism. People are lot smarter than you think

We are already in troubled times. I have to agree with the majority of what you are saying, but your comments regarding immigration and the water issue is a bit out there.
The problem with water is restrictions that are way too low. Sydney should be grade 4, Wingacarribi should also be on grade 3 or 4. Don't blame immigration on the water problems, blame stupid English garden loving toffs in Mosman and Bowral.

I think I'd have to agree with you on most points. Except:
2) With regards to foreign students, if your country is like mine they pay huge fees and provide a good revenue stream for universities.
4) Trying to artificially restrict the size of cities usually inflates property prices and rents even further.

Nah. We can handle that. We've done so several times in the past 200 years. Anyway there's an election this year.
