You shouldnt add salt to water before it boils because it can scar the bottoms of your pans. Add it after it boils. But when I was younger I had this same question. So I took 2 pans each with 3 cups of water, one with salt one without and guess what.. Boiled within seconds of each other. If you want to make your water boil faster put a lid on it.

actually it is the other way around. salt increases the temperature of a liquid. so, when you like to boil the water quicker, just add some salt.

but if you do not mind the smoke, you can put oil at the bottom of the cooking pan, then use it to boil water. the fire heats the oil, and the pan, but because the oil diffuses the heat better than without it, the water boils quicker. the only problem is a lot of smoke.

Sweetie,i am unsure where you got your facts but i have never heard that. However, adding salt before it boils can scar the bottoms of your pans.Generally, salt dissolves in hot water, but if you add it to cold water in your pans it definately will scar the bottom.Good luck hun and have a good night.
