Why is the strongest thing most religious people believe in something that can't be literally seen as a tangible presence or touched as a tangible presence? Why are people willing to believe in the unseen and untouchable and yet not believe in the science of things that are touchable such as fossils?

because people fear life and they need a god.

Part two first. Religious people understand all about fossils. What most of them don't believe in is the certainty with which most scientists draw conclusions from them. There is an admittedly much smaller, but growing number of scientists, with very impressive credentials, who are casting doubt on what was considered fact.

Part one goes only partly to faith. Because Jesus was a real historical figure, and because his disciples and others state that they witnessed a variety of things that he did and said, it does not make sense for me to say He was intangible.

You may say that you don't believe He existed, but you probably do believe, for example, that Alexander the Great existed, although the original and ancient documents (not the histories that were written much later) about him were scantier than those about Jesus.

We are created in the image of God. God is not visible to the human eye because our transgressions(sin) have far removed us from this priviledge. We would drop dead at the awe, beauty and majesty of God who is Light personified. We will ony be able to see God at the Second Coming of Christ when we are transformed into immortality. Faith is the reason for believing in an 'unseen' God. Faith is the substance of things not yet seen and the evidence of things seen. God's presence however is evident everywhere. One cannot see the Wind but we know it is there, likewise to with God. Be asured that if you have lived a rigtheous life you will see God in he clouds of glory.

Just because something is not discernible with your 5 senses doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You're a limited creature and your limitations prevent you from seeing such a complicated Being. Plus, that would be like looking at the sun, and we all know what happens when you look at the sun.

So the only solution is to use our heads and come to conclusions.

the God that I believe in IS able to be seen and touched. in fact theres nothing that is not part of God.

"the science of things that are touchable" is a very limited scope. its a profoundly miniscule sliver of a fragment of a glimpse of one second of an infinite timeline of infinite scope.

in the greater scheme of things there is infinitely more that is beyond the scope of science as we know it, than that which science(as we know it) includes.

if you do not try to limit knowlege to "the science of things that are touchable" and specifically limit the RESULTS of things, "of the science of things that are touchable" TO that context, that is just fine.

if you accept, even the possibility, that there are parts of the universe, of existance, of the nature of what is, that we do not scientifically understand/recognize/know of/have any place to even give an opinion about, then that is a HUGE step towards intellectual honesty.

SOME people do believe absurditys that go directly contrary to what we can scientifically prove, even if you entirely contain science as we know it, to what is within its grasp(which many anti-religion people do not do) these people(such as young earth creationists) defy.
but theres not NEARLY as much difference between young earth creationists and those who think science, as we know it, can cover all that is. both are absurd and dishonest.

During the time Moses was going to Mt.Sinai to recieve the ten commandments,he wanted the lord God to appear before him,but the lord God told him if you see me you shall not live.Remember the children of Israel also asked Moses the same question why they could not go with Moses to the mountain to see God.When they followed him to the mountain they heard thunderstorms, lightening and alot of threatening voices. They closed their eyes in fear of seeing God.If people of old feared to see God who are we to claim we want to see the supreme?Wait until the judgement day to see God.No hurry and do not be doubting Thomas(es)

God is visible, Brother.

I can see God in the harmony in between 100000000 Cell in the brain doing a marvellous and great performance, I can see it in the colors of the butterfly which cannot be made chaosly by nature, I see it in you, your creation and creativity.

first off who ever siad God is invisible i beleive it is in the OT he shows his face, and the person that he revealed it to said that it was surrounded with glory. And as far as fossils go, what happens when they don't measure, what happens when they are proven wrong or show nothing at all. Further more fossils help to prove the Bible.

Haven't you seen the emperor's new clothes? They're fantastic (but visible only to smart people, you know).
