I am pretty sure you got an idea what an MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) scan is. It is a radiology technique that uses magnetism, radio waves, and computer to produce images of body parts required.
Gadolinium is a kind of contrast media usually used in a procedure called Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA). An MRA test uses MRI to take pictures of blood vessels. During an MRA test, a gadolinium-contrast agent is injected into a patient’s vein so blood vessels can be distinguished from other nearby tissues.
In the case of MRI liver scan with gadolinium, the liver blood vessels images are going to be visualized with the use of gadolinium contrast.

I am told it will be a loud drilling noise as I lie down and the couch then moves through a small metallic white hole - a scanner which uses large magnets to produce accurate pictures operated from a control room. An injection of dye may be used as it helps veins show up better on the photos. It is very Important not to wear any metal whatsoever, I hope my metal back tooth will be alright! They said if I want to bring a music CD to override the noise that's ok.The procedure lasts aprox 20-30 mins.

When patients with hepatic metastases are being considered for metastasesectomy, they undergo a staging examination with contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using tissue-specific contrast agents. Patients with chronic liver disease who are at risk for hepatocellular carcinoma undergo periodic liver screening for focal liver detection, usually with ultrasonography (US) with MRI being used when US is equivocal. Finally, contrast-enhanced MRI with extra-cellular gadolinium chelates is preferred for characterisation of indeterminate hepatic masses with liver biopsy used when tissue diagnosis is needed.
Sorry it is so technical but there's no simpler way of explaining.
