Plant marigolds. There's something about the scent of marigolds that cats can't stand.

Hello there!

For the person who suggested aspirin.

Please DO NOT do this!

Aspirin is in a class of drugs called NSAIDs - Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, and cats are particularly sensitive to the gastrointestinal effects of; pain, bleeding, and ulceration that can be a side effect of these drugs.

Many common pain medications that are safe for humans (and other species) are potentially fatal to cats. These medications include Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Atasol, Paracetomol etc.) Acetylsalicylic acid known as ASA or by the brand name Aspirin, and Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil etc.)

One extra strength Acetaminophen tablet can kill a small cat.

--- Please think of the possibilities a method like that could entail, and consider that while these cats may not be yours, they may belong to a loving family. This in turn can be considered animal abuse, and you may be thrown up with legality issues in the longrun.

Go with something safe and affective.

There are a number of harmless repellents on the market today that will keep certain animals out of your backyard without actually causing any damage to them.

One of the more interesting products that I've found is called 'Scarecrow'

How does it work?

The ScareCrow uses a combination of sudden noise, unexpected movement, and a startling blast of water to create a memorable and unpleasant experience for the trespasser.

The animal immediately associates this unpleasant experience with the location, and to avoid similar surprises, learns to avoid the area. If an animal chooses to return, the ScareCrow will be waiting.

While a human may flee several steps after activating a ScareCrow, animals are typically affected to a much greater degree. In most cases they run much farther, and stay away longer. Because the unit only triggers when the animal moves, its behaviour is difficult for animals to anticipate, making it a very effective deterrent.

There are also a number of spray on garden repellents, which produce smells that cats may dislike.

Try checking Petco or your local pet store for suggestions as well.

Try the links for more info on products like the one I mentioned.

~Hope this helps!

Don't use amonia, cats are actually attracted to it. If you go to PetSmart(and some other pet stores carry it) get No boundary spray or dust, you can pray around your garden and it carries a smell that keeps cat, dogs and other random animals out of that area...DON'T USE AMONIA...it will only attract them more...

Two options: or you spread full water bottles everywhere; otherwise sprinkle ammonia on the concrete edges cats hate the smell of it.
