I think it depends what country you are from.
I know in the UK it became illegal about 3 or 4 years ago. I remember lots of people going crazy for the last 'batches' of legal ephedra.
Mostly the people I knew were EXTREMELY hyperactive on it. They would use it mostly to improve their exercise routines. Combining it with other legal drugs to make 'stackers'
Some people reacted very badly to it (nausea, headaches, throwing up) , but on the whole it did just what it used to say on the packet.
It is very similar to speed, but not an amphetamine as far as I know, although it may have been classed as one now.

They are illegal unless on prescription. They are not another name for speed - that's amphetamines (although they share many of the same characteristics and side effects).
They speed up your metabolism and can have a diuretic effect. And overdosing can kill.
Adverse drug reactions include:
* Cardiovascular: tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pain, vasoconstriction with hypertension
* flushing, sweating, acne vulgaris
* nausea, appetite loss
* increased urine output due to increased blood flow
* restlessness, confusion, insomnia, mild euphoria, mania/hallucinations (rare except in previously existing psychiatric conditions), delusions, formication (may be possible, but lacks documented evidence) paranoia, hostility, panic, stereotypical behaviour ('obsessive compulsive' or repetitive tasks such as cleaning, grooming, organizing items arbitrarily) agitation
* Respiratory: dyspnoea, pulmonary oedema
* Miscellaneous: dizziness, headache, tremor, hyperglycaemic reactions

ephedrine is a stimulant midway in strength between caffeine and amphetamine. It is used in the treatment of asthma and its slimming effects are probably due to the stimulation causing the person to be more active thereby helping to slim. There are risks involved in excessive or long term usage of ephedrine and there have even been some fatalities blamed upon this drug. Whether there were other underlying reasons I don't know

I think they are illegal but easy to get hold off. I know they aid weight loss but totally mess up ur body, they are an anphetamine so basically as you said like speed. Really not good for you, tell your friend to stay well away and if shes really concerned about her weight to consult her dr who really can help. there are so many other alternatives.

I used to be an amphetamine addict and when I was unable to get a hit I would load up on Sudaphed (psudoephadrine) or any other such over the counter drug, as it would act similarly to the speed. Do NOT take ephedrine as, from personal experience, it'll TOTALLY screw your head up and you'll end up depressed as HELL.

they are safe. take 25 mg ephedrine with 200mg caffeine 3 times a day and you will lose weight. they are only illegal in the usa because they are a main ingrediant in meth. here in canada they are still ready to buy at gas stations. you know if canada sells it they are fine, hell melatonin is illegal in canada so what does that say? sure if you swallow a whole bottle at once it is very harmful.

Ugh, those pills make your system speed up but at a rate where you lose water weight and end up peeing it out. And no, they aren't legal, so wherever she found them she should stop getting them, just for trouble's sake.
People have died from taking those pills, they are dangerous, please advise her not to take those anymore that looking like a supermodel like "glorious Tyra Banks" is just not worth it. Being Tyra and being a b it ch isn't worth it and you should stick to being yourselves, real people who have a life......
Good luck and good job at being a good friend, I hope you can persuade her to not use those anymore.....

Thanks for posting this question. I asked one very similar yesterday and didn't get any to the point responses. My concern is I have heard it is bad for your heart.
If so then why take something harmful to your body? Today is my first day off of them. Because I know they are unhealthy. It always helps to know why it is bad to make the decision to quit, I hope this question gives you answers for your friend.
