We are making out on my couch and I jockingly tell her that she is just my friend. She instantly and with a miz of slight anger and sadness said no she is not just my friend. I ask her what she is to me then and she said she doesn't know.
It is obvious we are dating.
A little background: we chatted for a month online before we met. Have been dating for a month since then, this was on our second date.
What do you think is on her mind?

But do you think that she is hinting at wanting to be my girlfriend? Or is she implying that she thinks of me as her boyfriend?

Your kidding Right? What kind of moron are you.....NEVER I repeat NEVER tell a girl "your just friends" THAT is the ultimate kiss off, she probably really liked (notice the "d") you, but now she's going to protect herself (and her heart) from the pain that she thinks is going to happen soon...the breakup, nobody wants to be the weak one in that, nobody wants to be the one to be broken up with and now she believes she has the information before hand. Sad thing is, is that you probably knew as well, subconsciouly. People that really do like each other don't say crap like that to each other even jokingly.
Joking or not....stupid move dude. I'd be getting back online because I'd be surprise if you saw much of her again!!.
But hey, I'm assuming your young by your naivete, you'll learn... one screwup at a time.

She is thinking that you are playing her - She likes you, as a boyfriend - and has allowed herself to "fall" for you - then you go and say something like "she is just my friend" and she is suddenly wondering if she made a huge mistake. Most girls don't want to be a friend with benefits. She wants to be your girlfriend, but is scared to say that b/c you already made a crack once about being just friends - she doesn't want to get hurt. Shame on you. If you like her, you should make it obvious that she is more than your friend. Introduce her to friends, call her your girlfriend - etc. good luck

You certainly picked the right time to make a joke like that. I think if I were with a woman and she said that I would be miffed as well.

if you to are dating then she is your girlfriend. and what you did was hurt her feeling by tell her that she was only a friend. it is not easy to get someone to stay with you if you have crushed their heart. becareful you could loose her because of your misunderstanding.
