The engagement ring is so important. It is the "first ring" given before the marriage ring. It signifies the love he had for her then and wanting her hand in marriage. The wedding band is worn to signify marriage. It is for the world to see that she is a married woman. She wears both very proudly. The first ring....desire....the second ring....commitment!

The engagement ring signifies the intent to marry, and the wedding ring the completion of the promise. Some people dispense with the engagement ring, but most women wear both, and as stated previously they are usually designed as a set and are meant to be worn together.
