For the record...how stupid of a name is Woody? I have been calling her Hen for about 10 hours now and I think she might learn to like it. I just called her Hen now and she looked at me and smiled.

So you can speak fluent CAT can you, other wise how di you know she was BORED her with name... or was it just you!
How stupid can you be to teach the thing to respond to a name and then suddenly start talking to thin air (as far as the cats concerned) called Hen. PS how stupid a name is that... yo will have the cat going nuts every time you or the TV or someone else mentions a hen/hens!!!
GO back to the original name get the cat on your knee and repeat its name a few times etc so that it gets back into the swing of things.

Just to add some detail: cats don't think of their names as 'names' - they just learn that there's a sound we make when we're going to pay attention to them. It's more like a gentle, personalised version of "Attention!"

One suggestion: cats can hear frequencies up to 40KHz - almost three times higher than us. Our voices probably sound like an elephant's rumbling to them! The names you've chosen so far - Mona and Hen - are short of high frequencies, and are probably not easy for a cat to discriminate.

You might try some alternative names containing 'S', 'T', 'X' and ssimilar ssibilantss with high frequenciess that your cat can hear easily. As well as making it easier on your cat, these sounds travel further if you need to call her from a distance.

How did you know your cat was bored with her name?

If you are going to change her name, it helps if you add the new name to the end of the old one when you call them.

In your case 'mona hen'. Do this for a while and then gradually lose mona.

My cat's name has gradually evolved from nutmeg to the pet name 'chicken'. She answers to all four names i use. My sister has also introduced another recently and she answers to that too. I think much of it is about the tone of voice you use.

Still chuckling about your cat being bored with her name!

Changing a cats name can be confusing for both you and the cat. I reccomend keeping her name, Mona. She is used to you calling her that and I think that would be best. For your cats sake.

This is the same cat you're planning to spray paint? Perhaps you should just get a different cat. Or better still a pet stone, you can paint it as much as you like and call it anything you want, it won't matter.

Quite honestly, I don't believe the confusion lies within your cat. Cat's don't want names. Cats are born with king-of-the-jungle personalities, not communicative personalities. They don't care WHAT you call them, they only care that you feed them when they're hungry, provide them water when they're thirsty, that you have a decent place for them to bury their wastes, that you allow it to mark you with its scent as often as it so desires, and that you allow it to snuggle up to you whenever IT wants, and that you only play with it when it is willing to play. They have no uses for names. That's why she didn't respond to you when you called her Mona, is because it just doesn't even care about that.

So for you to suggest that it is your cat who wants a name, is just plain silly on your part.

Change its name as often as you like. It won't matter.

It isn't your cat who's confused. It's you.

LMAO. I hope this isn't serious. What if your mom called you and said... " I don't like your name anymore, (name). I'm going to start calling you... Hen" Wouldn't you be confused when someone called asking for HEN???

Because cat's ( like any other animal ) doesn't understand a name.. it only recognize the sound. So if the sound you prononce is not the sound you cat is used to hear as it's name, your cat will ignore it as any other word it hear..

Cats don't care what we call them. She probably goes next door and gets called "Sylvia" by your neighbours. As long as you give her food she'll keep on loving you.
