Chocolate is poison to dogs they are not suppose to eat it they will become very sick and die from the toxin that is in it so if you dog eats chocolate you need to contact your vet and see if they want to put charcoal down your pets throat to make them throw up or if they want you to give you pet peroxide it will do the same thing .

It can. As told to me by a VET they have to actually consume alot of chocolate in order for it to kill them. My dog ate whole bag of hersey kisses and didn't die.. .but she got really high lol. I don't recomend feeding your dog ANY chocolate but I do know that in small amounts it will not kill them... my 2 year old has a habit of dropping food on the floor ... sometimes chocolate.. and the dogs eat it. we have 4 healthy dogs and the only one who ever had any reaction to it was the one who ate the whole bag of candy! As with most living things it most likely depends on the individual as to how much or how little it would take.
Just avoid any chocolate and you will not have to worry about how much can kill them! Table food is not good for dogs anyway and you should avoid giving them your food.

Chocolate?
Yes, there's a substance in chocolate that don't mix with the dog's body/blood. When they've eaten it, it takes about a day or a couple of hours before they die, i don't know if medical attention will help but if your under a situation like this, id suggest you to try it.

Hi Howard s!
Chocolate contains a substance called the obromine which is toxic to dogs. Baking chocolate and dark chocolate is especially dangerous. While it usually takes a somewhat large amount of chocolate to kill a dog, poisoning and death does occur with smaller amounts ingested. Signs of chocolate poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, increased urination, and increased activity. This can progress to seizures and unusual heart rhythms. Call your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your dog has eaten chocolate.

Yes, and it isn't a quick painless death. It kills off the organs first and then the dog. Cocoa mulch also kills dogs because it has the same chemicals. Milk chocolate is diluted though and it can take quite a bit to kill a large dog.

Chocolate is another common canine hazard. Although it may be your favorite thing to eat, it can be very dangerous for your pet. Chocolate contains caffeine and a related stimulant called theobromine, which can make your dog seriously ill. Both of these stimulants can raise your dogs heart rate, occasionally to the point of being fatal. Chocolate should be thought of as a poison to dogs.

The effect it has on your dog depends both on its size and the amount of chocolate the dog consumed. The smaller the dog, the less chocolate it needs to eat in order to overdose.

With Baking chocolate, half to one ounce can cause death in small dogs such as Toy Poodles, Yorkies and Chihuahuas. In medium sized dogs, such as Cocker Spaniels and Beagles, the amount is two or three ounces. In large dogs such as the Golden Retriever and Dalmatian the amount is eight ounces.

With milk chocolate, four to ten ounces can cause death in toy dogs, one to one and a half pounds in medium-sized dogs; and two to four and a half pounds in large dogs.

A small amount may not cause death but it can make them very ill. Fortunately, most dogs who overdose on chocolate just get an upset stomach with perhaps vomiting and diarrhea.

The darker the chocolate the more toxic it is to the pet. Symptoms can range from vomiting , diarrhea, hyperactivity, heart arrhythmias. If you know your pet had eaten chocolate, contact your vet. Other house hole poisons are Grapes, Onions , Macadamia nuts, wild mushrooms, antifreeze, rat poison, tooth paste, dental floss , rubber gloves. Just to name a few

No. I'm not a vet but over the years I've had a lot of times where the dogs have got into a chocolate stash and they were okay. I also had one chow down on a pointsetta plant and it kept on going.
