My daughter is 17 months old and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Her father however, thinks differently. He said I chose to have the baby, it was an unplanned pregnancy, so it's my whole responsibility to care for her, not his... He said he wants nothing to do with her and said there's no proof she is his. He also said if I did go for maintenance he would fight for custody and take her off me... that would be my punishment. A-hole Hun...
Is the money worth all this crap, am I going to subject my daughter to a complete a-hole that only cares about himself and his precious money. Im afraid he will use her to get to me for pursuing maintenance.
What should I do? Oh, and he's a lawyer!

He sounds like a complete jerk!!! Maybe you should avoid all contact with him and move forward with your life. If he doesnt want anything to do with the baby he will never make a father. Is his name on the birth certificate? I would go see a lawyer yourself and find out what your options are. You may want to get sole custody of the baby and move on with your life. There is more to life than money, I know it is hard raising a child alone for I raised three. I did it without child support for my ex would rather be around his alcohol than his kids. It was a constant battle. You dont want your daughter around the father, if he feels that way about the baby he will never love it. But go to a lawyer even if you have to go to another town and see what your options are. By rights he should have to pay you child support. But if you can make it without his help then I would. But make sure you get his name off the birth certificate if it is. Then go on with your life and forget about that jerk! You wouldnt want your child around that selfish man anyway! Go on with your life, be happy and some day you will meet the right man who adores and loves not only you but your daughter! But go see a lawyer, that is your right even though he is one!

If u have had her for 17 mths without his help what makes him think he'll get custody?? So if he does get her and hes working as a Lawyer is he going to stop to give full time care to your child? If you r getting payments through govt help u generally have to name the father and the agency collects it from them and passes it on. Depends on where u live.
If the money is crap and u not on govt payment lose him. Your child does not nor do you need his crazy idea of justice. Its not his but he wants her??? He wants custody make him prove he is the father catch 22 for him!!!! Not a lot of chance him getting her.

He is just bluffing. He does not want the child on a full time basis. As far as proof that the child is his, a DNA test is 99.995% accurate now. It is accepted in any court as proof of paternity. You are entitled to child support both on going and in arrears. I would think that if you get a lawyer and stand firm, he would not want the embarrassment.

Take him to the cleaners - he will get a nasty suprise when he hears the courts ruling on fathers trying to avoid paying maintance - trust me, they won't let him off the hook easy!
