A yogi is not merely a person who knows some yogic exercises. He is only a first stage yogi.
Yoga means communion. This world is a vast storehouse of energy. We may call this energy in different names like the universal consciousness, the supreme power of life and death , the effervescent flow of joy and sorrow , the positive source of creation and negative black hole of annihilation.
These are the basic natural truths which cannot be denied by any person or science.
The real great yogi comes here. With his power of self development , a real yogi can take part in this vast process and can influence the same! It is indeed a very difficult idea to accept . But all the great Indian Yogis had experienced the same and proclaimed the same. Who are we to judge them with our limited knowledge?
Is not Baba Ramdev silently doing the same revolution in the mundane thinking of the modern day disillusioned masses?
If you go towards the source of light , is it required to be told?Or you experience the same?

only a self realized person can be a real yogi.

Realized person is fulfilled. He is selfless. He sacrifices his own interest for the sake of others. He moves on without identifying without getting identified.

A yogi cannot be identified by the looks, following, dress he wears

A yogi is one who is not disturbed who will not disturb the world outside

In the presence of a yogi, all the doubts ceases, The anxiety, worry, fear which kills the mankind when living ceases to be in the presence of a yogi. you will be peaceful, That is the reason why Sat sang is advised. Few moments in hid presence you will become tranquil.

Gandhi... he displayed superior attributes and attainments of Patience, Tolerance, Self-sacrifice for the greater good, Non-Violence and most of all, he inspired millions towards peace.

THAT I believe, is the higher attainments of a Yogi.

Most of us look for the Yogi's Mundane attainments like not having the need to eat, levitation, heat generation, controling the weather, hearing the thoughts of others etc etc. These "powers" ARE signs of SOME attainment, but their appearance is really nothing more than a test of the yogi's Ego, Pride and Effort. Many yogis get "trapped" into believing they are supreme just because they can Divine the Future or Levitate and their advancement begins to slow down and then tends to degenerate.....

A real yogi is possessed with a balanced intellect. He neither exult nor worry. He has no desires. He abides in the SELF always. He carries out the duties without any desire. Hence his work is always done in a meticulous and beautiful way. He knows no anxiety because his conscious is rivetted to SELF. Those who exhibit their tendencies are not yogis.I have met few such yogis. nagarajan.

A yogi is someone who is single minded in his focus on reaching the Divine. Should he acquire siddhis along the way, he is not one to flaunt them or use them unnecessarily or for his own gain. His devotion is steadfast and pure.

I know a yogi, a bhakti yogi who sets such an example, and yet is so unassuming.

A yogi is one who has control over his senses even in the face of temptations or opportunities. A man or a woman living in a family and managing his or her life without going astray i.e. she or he does not take to wrong means for satisfying their hunger - body or lust. A yogi learns all skills and does not depend on any other person for his needs. Thus he observes self-restraint in every area of his life.

A true yogi of any religion is one who lives the rules of the book he believes in and what he preaches. Treats both the king and the poor equally and is not swayed by fame, riches or people's opinion but stands on the side of truth always. He should be wise in the ways of the world and of God.

You can differentiate between a fake a real by the fruits of their actions. If they help in the progression of humanity they are real. If they bring in destruction they are fake. But since we are in the kaliyug now there is a lot of misunderstanding on true progression and destruction too. You need to be wise to understand both.

In my religion, yes I have met many who live by our books and who practice what they preach.

My dear AUM,

In simple words, one who never harms by thought,by words, by his body can be called as a YOGI.

We can't differentiate because our knowledge is restricted.

I don't think they will come down here with a body in the present day condition. Their Aim will be to merge with the Ultimate. Even if they come they won't speak because their first condition is KEEP SILENCE.
