No I don't think it's wrong at all...like you said it's fiction. There's magic in the world and it's not all dark or black, there is many forms of magic and many of them have good intentions. Magic is nothing like it is on harry potter, it's all fake on the movies and in the books...real life doesn't work that way...it'd be nice if we could just say something in latin and *poof* something appears out of thin air lol but it doesn't.

Never got into LOTR, I mean, I tried, but I didn't care for it... But I love reading HP. I have read all the books at least 3 times... And no, they are entirely separate from religion. I mean, when has anyone ever suggested that these stories are true? Never. Therefore, religious fanatics shouldn't take it personally when they hear of stories like this.

You mean Hewlett Packard and Lyods, Orwell, Turner and Rex?

LMAO!

Just kidding. Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings are nice fiction movies.

And it's just that - fiction!

Magic and Ghosts etc, don't exist, I'm sorry!

While I don't mean to offend you or insult your faith, I must agree with jamustrip that the Qua'ran and the OT are bordering on pure fiction, for the most part.

By the way, quite a nice nic you have there - lumos nox! Light of the Night!

Where did you learn Latin? I thought you Muslims did Arabic, not Latin!

Pax vobiscum, pax dominic.

Ma salamah, ya aziza!

Look they make about as much sense as the quaran or the bible. Why is it that all religions try to demonize art when much that comes to religion was fiction in the first place. How many catholics believe in the various lvl's of hell when they were a fiction creation in Dante's inferno, or baptists believing in the rapture etc when that was clearly a fictional creation of a gentleman at the beginning of the century. Fiction is often canonized.

First of all, LOTR was written by a Christian man, who is one of the darlings of the Conservative Christ. They suppose they see a Christian story in LOTR.

Personally, I don't see it. I don't see any difference in basic messages of the LOTR's books and Harry Potter. I don't believe that there are too many children who actually believe that Harry Potter is real, that witches ride on brooms, or that there are dragons, unicorns, werewolves, or "animaguses", etc.

Look at the basic message of the stories, that good triumphs over evil, and you won't have a problem, IMHO.

i don't have opinions. there are different forms of energy. the one associated w/ morals is a process towards efficiency. is it efficient to have outlets that question our rationale for behaving in societal norms?- no. is it just to prohibit the free exchange of ideas in an effort to have some truths exclusive of others?- no. are we free when all people act the same way, and believe the same things, and know the same truths?- no. ultimately, it does not affect religion. religion will carry on as it has always, and through more fantastic means, will find a bridge between all interactive experiences.

I'll add my voice to the chorus - there's nothing wrong with them. It might not mean much to you as a Muslim, but J.R.R. Tolkien was a Christian. He wrote an absolutely beautiful creation myth for the Silmarillion.

Of course magic exists, and it is in essence neutral, however when used purely for ill will and evil then it is dark, not black. Magic has no colours. It is the mixture of good and bad that makes magic neutral, however evil is different. That's dark.
