The pronunciation is pretty much the same in Greek (many greek girls have this name, also, but it's of latin origin, see: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?terms=stella&nmd=n&gender=both&operator=or ), but the sounds are ... plain(?), I mean, if you have heard Italian or Spanish talk, then it's nearer.
Your teacher added a syllable which appears in figures of mythology or ancient history, but in general are not of greek origin.
Btw, the ancient greek word for star is "αστήρ".

Stella comes from the greek name Stilliani which is made Stella just to save words. We make this with many names. Example : John is Ioannis but we call him Yiannis, or Eleni - Lena etc.

It is pronounced Stella as it is written.
If you want to make it cute, you can say "Stellitsa" with intonation on i or "Stellaki" with intonation on a..
Stella in Latin means Star. In Greek it is Asteri - αστέρι (intonation on e).
Astir is in the formal Greek

"Stella" is a Latin word for star. I don't think there is any Greek connection.

The Greek word for star is αστέρ, or "aster". Some women have the name "Aster", but it's not nearly as popular as "Stella".

stella is alright latin for star. in ancient greek is astir-asteros for star. also astron-plur=astra.
there is a female name for star=astero(stress on e).
astero would be the exact equivalent of your name, in greek. stella also exist, but from other derivation.
the noun stella is from latin, which stems from greek stalla, meaning a drop, a bit, as stars were seen as a speck on the sky. it also mean "sender" from greek verb "stello"=to send; so it means kind like a sender.-
