HALAL means that it is slaughtered in the name of Allah ; meaning saying a prayer before the slaughter - that's the only difference...
(which only refers to herbivore land animals such as lamb, cow, deer, camel etc...)
we do not need to do anything to fishes as they are not from land therefore could be cooked straight away...
Muslims are forbidden to eat swine (numero uno), carnivorous animals , reptiles and amphibians
(unless it's the case of survival where we could only find only those animals mentioned above - but, only just enough to fill the stomach to a minimum... no burping :P )
hope this helps
salam!

first, understand the meaning of Halal....
it refers to anything that is permissible under Islam.
"Forbidden to you (your food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject Faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful" Quran 5:3

5:96] All fish of the sea are made lawful for you to eat. During
pilgrimage, this may provide for you during your journey. You shall not
hunt throughout the pilgrimage. You shall reverence GOD, before whom
you will be summoned.

No Halal does not apply to fish becuase it is asphyxiated when you take it out of water.
