I completely disagree with Japou--the cities in Switzerland are nothing special, not worth it for a 4-day trip. Take a slow train (maybe a boat in there) to a little place in the mountains (Andermatt, Bergun, Brig) and take in the beauty from there.

I'm an American who lived in Switzerland for several years. Zermatt and the Matterhorn are great, but the trip is expensive and if there is a cloud in the sky, it will shroud the Matterhorn--just be warned. For an amazing mountain view, Shilthorn is spectacular. Luzern and Interlaken are great. Try taking a boat ride around a part of the lakes in either city. For an interesting, less traveled Renaissance city, try Solothurn. It is a beautiful walled city in Canton Bern. Geneva is also very nice. I enjoyed the Red Cross Museum and Chillion (sp?) Castle on Lake Geneva

Goddess is correct. Skip the cities especially Bern and Basel!!! Consider Lucerne (with a visit to Pilatus or Rigi), Zurich, and hit Jungfrauhof...OR...head South to Lugano - Ticino is fantastic for sure.
