Well....

Sony has always been the DE FACTO standard of excellence by which all other TVs are compared....

The fact that you see TV SHOWS using Sony as their TV monitors should tell you that BROADCASTERS and Producers will not settle for anything less than the best.

So buying a SONY is a guaranteed "BEST TV"

With that said, let me tell you what ELSE is a darn good purchase.

Mitsubishi, Panasonic, LG (yes they are reliable!) Hitachi and Samsung (Yes they too are reliable)
If I were to pick out of this group.....Mitsubishi 1st, Hitachi 2nd...
I like a highly DETAILED and razor sharp picture. Color accuracy comes in 2nd, as I can adjust for that...but all of the above don't suffer any color accuracy problems.

BUT SONY....that's the big one!

I bought a Sharp AQuos Lc37xdie which is fully HD ready.
Don't take any resolution less than 1900x1080.
The sharp meets this specification. This is the highest on the market and is superior to many Sony models.
By going for the Sharp you will get an excellent TV at a very competitive price.
The picture is stunning. Many friends have commented on this
Good Luck

It depends on what you're looking for. Personally, I wouldn't buy an 42" HD Ready TV. LCDs with full HD resolution are now available, so why bother with an inferior type?

I work for an electrical retailer, and everyone who is planning on buying a Playstation 3 is looking for a full HD LCD. The Sharp LC42XD1E is selling out as fast as we can get them in stock.

I think I agree with the other answers but you really have got to pay for that quality. I have a Samsung and it's superb. The picture quality is amazing. I haven't got HD tv but when I play a superbit dvd it's like they are in the room. And it's an awful lot cheaper.

Sonys the best.

Samsung and Sharp are junk electonics, we get ALOT of Samsung and Sharp units in for repair, they have high failure rates.
