can any1 tell me hw can we find a file in unix/linux environ.if we don't know the location of the file in the entire system? i mean to say u'll have to search each and every directory,subdirectory in each of the drives.
For Ex: i need to find a file named 'a.s' hw can i find it out?

Under OpenSuSE you simply use the Search Beagle and go through all your drives.
If you don't know what the file relates to , it is a bit hard to narrow down the search areas - so you'll have to search all your directories and folders, sorry.

just use the find command
if u dont know where and want to search everywhere u could just use
$ find / a.s

if your unsure how to use find
type
man find
