really soon but I would like anyone's opinion in the meantime. His belly is also a little hard unlike my other cat's belly which is big but soft. Any ideas?

Take him in for sure..Make sure your cats get exercise so they don't become obese...It's bad for their health and a good game or two with your cats is great for their health.......

My cat had a feline peritonitis that is a bad thing...Take him to the vet and slow down on the food !

The physiology of cats differ from cat to cat. My LHD has a bit of a "hanging belly" even though he is only 1 yr old and is no where fat. My 9 yr old on the other hand has "tight" skin and as a result, when he gains a bit of weight, his belly always looks like it will pop like a balloon. It always feels firm to the touch too. Maybe your cat has the same type of "tight" skin. At any rate, take him for a vet check up. The vet normally palpates the cat's tummy to feel if all organs are as they should be. If there is a problem, then I am sure the vet will tell you. But I suspect that your tubby kitty just needs to lose a bit of weight (like my 9 yr old).

If your cat had feline peritonitis you would know about it as your cat would be disgustingly sick. mmm Hard large lump in the abdomen i really don't like the sound of that.
I know your going to get your cat checked anyway so rather that worry you i will leave it up the professionals
