She is an indoor cat and soooo sweet. I am worried about her personality changing and any health side effects from having a full hysterectomy without hormone supplement, which is essentially what spaying does.

You can simply just not spay her and tolerate her when she goes into heat. She will cry a lot, may spray, and be desperate for a mate for a couple of months every year. She will be miserable, and make you miserable as well.

There are some hormonal shots and pills to prevent that, but the side effects are worse than simply spaying her. There is also evidence that ovaban (hormones) also increase chances of mammary cancer. Or you may forget a dose, and like clockwork your cat will go in heat and have all the dangers associated w it.

An unspayed cat is at risk of pyometra (more info here: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?articleid=917 ) They also become great escape artists and may wander far in search for a mate and get lost

A kitten recovers sooooo quickly and the risks are so minimal, even more minimal when you compare it w the risks of possible delivery if she gets pregnant, mammary cancer, spaying a pregnant cat or cat w pyometra. Hormones in dogs and cats is different than in women, they don't go into menopause like we do, and they are miserable when they go in heat. Their bodies are prepared to live without hormones since they only have all that hormonal rush once a year (twice in dogs), while our body is really not used to being without hormonal fluctuations since we deal w it all the time, every month... if we are not ovulating... we are having a period.... no break

Im sure she will be much happier spayed than not and forced to be celibate w her raging hormones :-)

You cannot compare a cat to a human being. There is no alternatives and you will be thank ful for it in the end. Cats heat cycles are way different to a humans and therefore do not require hormone replacement therapy.
Unless you cat is mated she will come into season every 21 days until she is mated.
Even thought she is an indoor cat she will get out that is for sure. Such is the urge for her to be mated.
Cats are what we call spontaneous ovulators so once they are mated they ovulate making pregnancy imminent.

Please get her done it is the only way your cat Will be healthier for it in the long run. It is relatively short procedure with taking about 10 days for to recover. It will not alter her personality in any way.
Cats can get all sorts of health problems from not being desexed.
Make the right decision and have her done

Spaying a cat isn't inhumane in any respect! think of what the place to ensue in case your cat became to get outdoors and become pregnant?! does no longer you experience in charge for all the kittens that have been born and now mandatory stable properties?! much less that there are maximum of thousands and thousands of cats in want of residences interior the US?! (and the international) The technique is amazingly basic, it is recurring and rather ordinary to recover from. they're under anesthesia and don't experience something. they're sent abode with discomfort drugs so as that restoration at house is comortable. A simplier operation? the place they only tie tubes? the two ARE SURGICAL! do no longer youngster your self PS_ have you ever been around a cat it rather is in warmth? OR do you already know that cats are poly estrous? meaning they arrive into warmth persistently AGIAIN each and each month until they're spayed? Or it rather is it extra high priced and risky to attend until they arrive into warmth to have them spayed? Wow....

You need to do more research on Spaying.
Spaying a cat calms the female horomones down, and does more good to the health of her body and mind. An unspayed female that does NOT mate will have more emotional and behavioral problems than a female cat that is Spayed OR has a litter or 2. Not spaying your cat and not letting her breed would be torture.
Spaying is OKAY!!! HUMANE!!! AND OKAY!!
I swear.

Mine takes certain pills every few months when she has a problem. But in the USA spaying is what is usually done. For some reason pills are never mentioned as an option? In my country that is the most popular method and it works fine. Spaying/neutering is carried out mainly when there is a serious health condition which requires such drastic measures.
It is recommended, however, that a cat who takes pills should give birth at least once in her life. We arranged that for my cat when she was three years old - kittens were lovely and we found very nice homes for them. My cat is five years old now. She has always been very healthy and I would never spay her. People who have seen her kittens often ask me whether I'm considering to have more soon. Well, maybe in a few years, if we find a nice partner... :)
Anyway, you'd better ask a vet about the options available where you live.

Spaying a cat can save it's life. Cat's who are allowed to go into heat are far more likely to develop cancer. You can't get cancer on parts you don't have.

It won't change her personality either, she's usually not in heat so most pf the time she's already acting like she would after being spayed.

The alternative is likely a litter of unwanted kitties should your cat decide during a heat cycle that she wants to shoot out the door and dash out into the neighborhood.

I do understand your concerns. Maybe talk to your vet about your fears? He or she might be able to give you more information that would make you feel better about spaying.

I have never had a female cat that had any side effects from being spayed. Unspayed females are 70% more likely to develop cancer though.

Yes, her personality may change when you have her spayed...but it will change for the BETTER.
Spayed and neutered animals almost always become much more laid back.

There are no alternatives to having her spayed.
Cats don't need to take hormone supplements after they are spayed....and a spayed or neutered animal is MUCH less likely to develop cancer .

Please have your cat spayed...she'll lead a longer and happier life.

she will be happier not having to go through being in heat anymore it will make her healthier too she won't be able to get cancer there because those parts are gone.

if you have any doubts go to an animal shelter and see all the unwanted animals and see if you want to potentially add to this population.
