I have seen the phrase "chance favors the prepared mind" attributed to the astronomer Carl Sagan but am not sure if he was the originator.

Given the context of "observation," it means (generally) that keen observers who know what they are looking for, and how to recognize it, will be more likely to have accurate observations and less likely to miss pertinent information than their less prepared counterparts.

To me it means that if by chance a lottery ticket for a million dollars happens to blow in the wind and land at your feet, you will only reap the benefit of that if you happen to be paying attention. If chance favours you then you had better be ready to act. It's not much good if the lights are on and no one is home. Or at least that is my take on the quote

yea its like u have to know what to observe in order to observe. or else you'll miss the minor details? like in an experiment, if you do not do ur theory right then u might not know what to observe. does this help?
